Wilfred Meiners, age 77, of Dedham, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann assisted by Wilfred’s brother, Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Cindy Bauer and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Lector will be Patricia Kruse. Gift Bearers will be Jessica Meiners and Tori Ziegmann. Eucharistic Ministers will be Lenora and Vince Gross, and Dale Schlichte. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Felicia Ziegmann, Allyson Meiners, Austin Meiners, Dylan Meiners, Alexis Ziegmann, and Emily Meiners. Casket Bearers will be LeRoy Schlichte, Cory Meiners, Christopher Meiners, Mark Meiners, Cody Meiners, and Christopher Neppl. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, where there will be a Rosary prayed at 3 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5 p.m.
Visitation will resume at St. Joseph’s Church at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, and will continue until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on June 12, 1938 in Carroll County, Iowa, Wilfred was the son of George and Matilda (Klocke) Meiners. He grew up in Dedham and attended St. Joseph’s School. He then graduated from Carroll High School. After high school, Wilfred began his career as a truck driver. He later started, owned, and operated Wilfred Meiners Trucking.
On June 20, 1963, Wilfred was united in marriage to Alberta Eischeid at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. The couple made their home in Dedham. Along with trucking, Wilfred worked for the city of Dedham. He was a member of the Dedham Fire Department from 1959-1986, serving as fire chief from 1975-1986. Wilfred also owned and operated Donna’s Café. He enjoyed tractor rides, woodworking, and playing fast-pitch softball for Dedham. Wilfred was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Dedham.
Left to celebrate Wilfred’s life is his wife of 52 years Alberta Meiners of Dedham; four children: Leon (Deb) Meiners of Adel, Christy (Denny) Rose of Dedham, Paul (Melissa) Meiners of Polk City, and Larry (Tricia) Meiners of Polk City; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his siblings: Delores McCort of Council Bluffs, Norbert (Janet) Meiners of Thomasville, GA, JoAnn Humphries of Pelham, GA, Deacon Louis Meiners of Dedham, Mary Jane (Jay) Weber of Thomasville, GA, Richard Meiners of Dedham, Daryl (Peggi) Meiners of Fremont, NE, and Emily (Jim) Ogden of North Chesterfield, VA; his sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Joyce Meiners of Carroll, Clifford (Norma Jean) Eischeid of Carroll, Ruth Ann (Ray) Brincks of Carroll, Velma (Duane) Bueltel of Carroll, Verena (Roman) Wittrock of Carroll, Lenora (Vince) Gross of Carroll, Janice Neppl of Denison, Theresa (Dale) Schlichte of Templeton, and Arlene Eischeid of Carroll.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents; his brother David Meiners, his sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Judy Meiners, Barb Meiners, Jack McCort, Harry Humphries, Delores (Walter) Nees, Duane Neppl, Marvin Eischeid, and Marian (Melvin) Bauer.
