Wilbur “Webb” Lappe, age 90 of Carroll, Iowa, died early Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Bickford Assisted Living in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lector will be a grandson, Chandler Murillo. Gift Bearers will be Webb’s children, Dennis Lappe and Kristy Lappe. Music will be by pianist Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Communion Ministers will be Dennis Schleisman, Arlene Dalhoff, and Rosie Obman. Casket Bearers will be Chandler Murillo, Karsten Lappe, Mark Werner, Jim Billmeier, Chad Steinkamp, and Ted Longnecker. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 P.M. on Wednesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday by St. Lawrence Parish. Wilbur Lappe was born on August 12, 1921, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Mathew and Helen (Flies) Lappe. He spent most of his lifetime in the Carroll community and for the past four years has lived in West Des Moines to be near his children. Webb graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1939 and then attended the Grand Island School of Business in Grand Island, Nebraska. While in high school he was a talented football and basketball player. Wilbur and Dorothy Werner were united in marriage on January 30, 1965, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The couple made their home in Carroll where Webb was a farmer and owned apartment houses. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Carroll Knights of Columbus.
Wilbur is survived by his children, Dennis (Carla) Lappe of Clive and Kristy Lappe of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Chandler Murillo, Karsten Lappe, and Katarina Hockey; one brother, Gregory Lappe of Atlantic; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ila Lappe of Indianola, Grace Lappe of Vail, Alvina Wendl of LeMars, Annabelle and Paul Snyder of Carroll, Jack Longnecker of Carroll, and Dardy Werner of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Lappe, in December 2007; his parents; four brothers, Graydon, Clarence, Reynold, and Hubert; three sisters, Catherine, Hilda, and Lucille; his brothers-in-law, Wilbur Werner, John Werner, Lawrence Boyce, and Leo Wendl; and by his sisters-in-law, Ione Lappe, Gladys Lappe, Myrtal Lappe, Geneva Boyce, Dorothy Werner, and Mary Ann Longnecker.
