Violet Mulloy, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Carroll, Iowa at the St. Anthony Nursing Home. Vi was born on December 19, 1929, to Amelia and Emil Dewald on a farm south of Tripp, South Dakota. After graduating from Tripp High School, she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she met and married Joe Mulloy in 1948. Vi and Joe were married for 55 years before Joe’s passing in 2003.
Vi and Joe raised their family in and around Sioux City for more than 50 years including Dakota City, Nebraska and Riverside in Sioux City. In 2004 Vi moved to Carroll, Iowa to be closer to her daughter and made that her home for the past 20 years.
Growing up on a farm helped prepare Vi for the ups and downs and challenges that life can bring. Raising a family, sometimes on a rented farm, sometimes working two jobs at once, life presented her with many obstacles. Through it all Violet was a resilient, strong, fun loving, compassionate loving woman. She was active in her churches but beyond that, if you needed help with anything she would be there for you. There are scores of people who Vi helped over the years including her volunteering activities. She was a great role model for her children, her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Violet is survived by daughter Kathi Peters of Carroll; son Tim Mulloy and Nancy Vande Weerd of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son Chuck Mulloy of Mountain View California; brother Arlo Dewald of Parkston, South Dakota; ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. (note: Vi was very proud to be known as “GG” because of the 18 great grandchildren) She is predeceased by her husband Joe, sons Joel and Tom, son-in-law Bill Peters and daughter-in-law Linda Mulloy.
Private graveside services will be held on December 28th with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
Vi’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Anthony Nursing Home for the loving care given to Vi.
