Victor Wendl, age 86, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Monday, March 22, 2010, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be his children, Alice Music, JoAnne Neugent, and Keith Wendl. Gift Bearers will be Lisa Wiederin, Karen Wendl, Sarah Music, Megan Music, Patricia Neugent, Maureen Neugent, and Kennedy Wendl. Mass Servers will be Alex Wiederin, Rachel Zaborowski, and Julie Zaborowski. Eucharistic Ministers will be children, David Wendl, JoAnne Neugent, and Mary Wendl-Zaborowski. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Joseph M. Wendl, Scott Wendl, Brian Wendl, Matt Wendl, Mike Wendl, Chris Music, David Neugent, and Danny Neugent. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Willey, Iowa. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Sunday. There will be a Christian wake service at 3 P.M. Sunday by St. Lawrence Parish. A rosary will be prayed at 6 P.M Sunday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus. The Carroll Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard at the funeral home for the rosary and at the church for the funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for St. Lawrence Parish or the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Mr. Wendl was born on March 4, 1924, near Dedham, Iowa, the son of John and Mary (Danzer) Wendl. As a child his family moved to their farm southeast of Willey and Victor attended St. Mary School and Carroll High School. On January 7, 1947, he was married to Marie Muhlbauer at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. The couple farmed south of Willey until 1981 when they retired and moved to Carroll. Victor was a long time grain farmer and cattle feeder. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Men’s Club, Resurrection Choir, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, R.S.V.P. Singing Group, and volunteered at the radiology department at St. Anthony Hospital. Victor enjoyed his family, playing cards, baseball, and visiting with his friends. Survivors include his wife, Marie Wendl of Carroll; his children, David Wendl and wife Joanne of Carroll, Joseph C. Wendl of Bellevue, Nebr., Mary Wendl-Zaborowski and husband Joe of Omaha, Nebr., Marvin Wendl of Jackson, Wyoming, JoAnne Neugent and husband Kevin of East Lansing, Mich., Alice Music and husband Walter of Waterford, Virginia, Dan Wendl of Scottsdale, Ariz., Steve Wendl of Council Bluffs, and Keith Wendl and wife Kirstin of Norwalk; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a sister, Sister Lydia Wendl F.S.P.A. of LaCrosse, Wisc.; and a sister-in-law, Alvina Wendl of LeMars. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alphonse, Leo, and Paul Wendl; and sisters, Agnella Meiners and Sister Joan Marie Wendl F.S.P.A.
