Thelma Wiederin, age 89 of Carroll, Iowa, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Wednesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be granddaughters, Wendi Behrens and Lacey Laubscher. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Roxanne Richardson, Becky Donner, Shannon Heisterkamp, Jennifer Reicks, Lisa Wiederin, Rachel Jackson, Amy Kirsch, and Jessica Wiederin. Mass Servers will be Ryan Klocke, Adam Scharfenkamp, and Ryan Scharfenkamp. Music will be by pianist Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thelma’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Brian Stoffers, Cory Wiederin, Jeff Wiederin, Shawn Wiederin, Josh Wiederin, Chad Wiederin, and Sheldon Kirsch. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 P.M. Tuesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 5:30 P.M. Tuesday by St. Lawrence Parish followed by a rosary at 7 P.M. Tuesday. Thelma was born on August 29, 1922, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Bernholtz) Huegerich. She spent her younger years in the Mt. Carmel community and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. Following her formal education Thelma helped at home and helped families in the area. Thelma and Merle Wiederin were united in marriage on April 24, 1945, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. Thelma and Merle farmed in the Carroll area until 1969 when they moved to Carroll. Thelma raised her family and was employed at Pauline’s Café, Tru-Fit Manufacturing, and Farmland Foods in Carroll until her retirement. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Parish Ladies Guild. Thelma enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, gardening and flowers, jig saw puzzles, playing cards, country music, and sitting on her front porch.
Survivors include her children, Lou Ann (Ron) Stoffers of Omaha, Nebr., Larry (Sharon) Wiederin of Arcadia, Robert (Mary) Wiederin of Carroll, Gary Wiederin of Lidderdale, Kathy (fiancé, Dick Greteman) Olson of Carroll, Lynn (Mary) Wiederin of Ralston, Lois (Ron “Woody”) Beyer of Carroll, LaVerne Wiederin of Carroll, LaVonne (Rick) Richardson of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Mike Wiederin of Lidderdale; a daughter-in-law, Karlynn Wiederin of Ralston; a son-in-law, Jerome Kirsch of Carroll; 29 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Huegerich of Carroll and Darlene Taylor of Dallas, Texas; and one brother, Earl (Alvina) Huegerich of Rockwell City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle Wiederin, in June 1982; a son Steve Wiederin; a daughter, Shirley Kirsch; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Edwin, and Roy Huegerich; three sisters, Lucille Rust, Marian Vicarius, and LuJean Schaefer; and by four siblings in infancy.
