Sheryl Stoolman, age 53, of Carroll, Iowa, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, of injuries received in an auto accident near Beaver, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Con-celebrants will be Father James Bruch and Father Lynn Bruch. Lector will be Dr. Sharon Stoolman-Olden. Gift Bearers will be Jeff and Maxine Warnke, Brad and Holly Warnke, and Adam Warnke. Mass Servers will be Katelynn Venner, Cory Venner, Stacie Venner, and Paige Schlichte. Music will be by All Strings Attached and soloist will be Justin Badding. Eucharistic Ministers will be Julie Rohe and Cheri Theulen. The Carroll County EMS and Fire Departments, St. Anthony Hospital Emergency Room Nurses, and Catholic Daughters of America will form an honor guard at the church for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be Carroll County EMS personnel, Denise Rohrbeck, Rae Ann Meyer, Don Meyer, Jeff Hall, Darrell Baker, Jim Millenacker, Mike Lloyd, and Dan Becker. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Monday by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Monday by Holy Spirit Parish. Visitation will resume at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Church. Memorials may be left at the church to establish a scholarship in Sheryl’s name for Nursing Students or EMS Training.
Sheryl was born on May 20, 1956, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Cyril and Anita (Bruch) Venner. She attended Christ the King School and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1974. She then graduated from the St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1976 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Sheryl and Dan Stoolman were married on August 14, 1976, at St. Francis Church in Maple River, Iowa. The family lived in several communities before settling in Carroll in 1984. Sheryl received her Registered Nursing Degree in 1986 from the Des Moines Area Community College. She was employed at St. Anthony Regional Hospital for twenty-six years and was the Director of the Emergency Room Unit for nineteen years. In 2007 Sheryl received the Iowa Hospital Associations Heroes Award. She was a part time nursing instructor at DMACC and a part time paramedic for the Carroll County Ambulance Service. Sheryl was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Emergency Nurses Association of Iowa, and the Iowa Trauma Association.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Stoolman of Carroll; her children, Rachel Stoolman and fiancé Alex Butrymowicz of The Bronx, New York, Chuck Stoolman of Carroll, and Andy Stoolman and wife Sara of Shakopee, Minn.; her grandchildren, Jackson and Addison Stoolman; parents, Cyril and Anita Venner of Arcadia; her sisters, Donna Friel and husband Jim of West Branch, Marlene Wittrock and husband Gary of Arcadia, Joleen Eischeid and husband Steve of Breda, Angie Tigges and husband Wayne of Maple River, and Marcia Schlichte and husband Dan of Ralston; brothers, Ken Venner and wife Carol of Arcadia, Dennis Venner and wife Kathy of Arcadia, and Kevin Venner and wife Jill of Arcadia; her mother-in-law, Agnes Stoolman of Carroll; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Pat Rock of Omaha, Nebr., Norene Stoolman of Omaha, Nebr., and David and Susie Stoolman of Omaha, Nebr.; and by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Casey Iman; her father-in-law, Don Stoolman; and grandparents, John and Margaret Venner and Art and Regina Bruch, Sr.
