Ryan Handlos, 36 of Coon Rapids, died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa from injuries received in a livestock accident at his family’s farm near Willey.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass servers will be: Nicole Bauer and Tallon Beiter. Music will be by Shelly Schreck, St. Mary’s Choir with Jake Gute as cantor. Lector for the funeral mass will be Jeanne Riesberg. Gift Bearers will be: Paige Kidney, Max Schreck, and Emersyn Brenny. Eucharistic Ministers will be Kim Handlos and Kris Quandt. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Mark Handlos, Adam Handlos, Jay Hausman, Kevin Feld, Brent Soyer, Dave Hoffman, Troy Stoelk, Craig Wiederin, Tim Bauer, and Jake Best. Casket Bearers will be: Jeff Sporrer, Cory Handlos, Brian Handlos, Brad Hoffman, Jessie Irlbeck and Mike Handlos. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Willey.
Friends may call at St. Mary’s Church in Willey after 4 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the church and will be directed to an education fund for Ryan’s children.

Ryan Joseph Handlos was born on October 8, 1979 at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Gary and Jan (Riesberg) Handlos. He attended St. Mary’s School in Willey and later graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School with the Class of 1998. While in high school he was active with the F.F.A. Ryan furthered his education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. Following his schooling he was engaged in grain and livestock farming with his family near Willey and also owned and operated Handlos Round Baling.
On April 5, 2008, Ryan was united in marriage to Jennifer Irlmeier at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The couple made their home in Carroll and later moved to the Irlmeier Family Farm near Coon Rapids.
Ryan’s greatest joy and love was his family; especially his children. Ryan will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends. He truly enjoyed conversations with his friends and family, working with cattle, and will be remembered for his talent of grilling. Ryan was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Willey.
Left to cherish his life is his wife, Jennifer Handlos of Coon Rapids; his children: Paige Kidney, Aiden Handlos, and Emma Handlos, all at home; his parents: Gary and Jan Handlos of Willey; his sisters: Kenzie (Bret) Schreck of Carroll, and their children, Ava, Max, Alexa, and Amelia; and Kellie (Brian) Brenny of Carroll and their children: Ella, Emersyn, and Finn; his grandmother, Leona Riesberg of Halbur; his parents-in-law, Joan Irlmeier of Coon Rapids and Randy Irlmeier of Coon Rapids; his brother-in-law, Phil (Kelly) Irlmeier of Ankeny and their children, Ethan and Evan; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Ryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Irvin Riesberg; his paternal grandparents, Joe and Mary Ann Handlos; and his niece, Kate Brenny.
