Ruth Pille-Lengeling, age 85, of Carroll, Iowa, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 9, 2008, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be Jim Schrad, Kevin Furey, and Casey Quinn. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Lisa White, Amy Bench, Jill Quinn, Mandy Woolery, Meghan Furey, Mary Furey, Tess Furey, Lyndsie Pille, Sarah Murray, Ashleigh Pille, and Niki Monahan. Mass Servers will be granddaughters, Danielle, Mackenzie, and Miranda Pille. Eucharistic Ministers will be Ray and Barb Pille and Diane Boes. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of America, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, and Arcadia American Legion Auxiliary will form and honor guard for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Tom Pille, Tony Johnson, Casey Quinn, Ben Pille, Dan Pille, Evan Furey, Dominic Furey, Ryan Pille, Josh Crouse, Cameron Pille, and James Schrad (posthumously). Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Maple River. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Wednesday by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 6 P.M. Wednesday by St. Lawrence Parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Ruth Pille-Lengeling was born on August 29, 1923, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Henry J. and Minnie (Kokenge) Bernholtz. She spent her younger years in the Mt. Carmel community and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and graduated from St. Angela Academy in 1942. On June 9, 1947, she was married to Raymond A. Pille at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple made their home in Maple River where she raised their family and was a part time bookkeeper for B.A. Pille and Son Company. Mr. Pille died in February 1967 and she moved to Carroll in 1990. On July 7, 2001, she was married to Delmar I. Lengeling at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The couple made their home in Carroll and Mr. Lengeling died in July 2007. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Arcadia American Legion Auxiliary, and fifty year member of the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed her family, golf, bowling, traveling, playing cards, and gardening. Survivors include her children, Ray Pille and his wife Barb of Omaha, Nebr., Kathy Johnson and her husband Dave of Omaha, Nebr., Lois Quinn and her husband Dennis of Mankato, Minn., Jan Schrad and her husband Jim of San Antonio, Texas, Joe Pille and his wife Janelle of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Lucy Furey and her husband Kevin of Austin, Texas, Charles Pille and his wife Debb of Carroll, Steve Pille and his wife Trina of Las Vegas, Nevada, Teresa Crouse and her husband Todd of Lake View, and Bernie Pille and his wife Lisa of Maple River; step children, Dr. Randall Lengeling of Dubuque, Bradley Lengeling of Waukesha, Wisc., Kay Leslie Martin and her husband John of Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Kirk Lengeling and his wife Debra of Grand Rapids, Minn.; 29 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; a twin sister, Rita Henrich of Maple River; a sister-in-law, June Bernholtz of Carroll; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a grandson, James Schrad; brothers, Julius Bernholtz, Laverne Bernholtz and his wife Lillian; and Glenn Bernholtz; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Henrich.
