Ruby Heun, age 85, of Carroll, Iowa, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at her residence in Carroll.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 19, 2011, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Officiating will be Father Timothy Johnson, Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. Casket Bearers will be Jon Ware, Dave Sterner, Mark Rix, Larry Rix, Keith Bauer, and Jeff Puffett. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 P.M. Friday where a prayer service will be held at 7 P.M. Friday.
Ruby was born on September 1, 1925, at Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mattie (Thompson) Ferguson. She received her formal education in the Dunlap area. In 1944 Ruby was married to David Wright at Dunlap, Iowa. Mr. Wright died in 1945 while serving in the military during World War II. In 1947 she was married to Alva “Andy” Andersen in Hiawatha, Kansas, and the marriage ended in divorce. Ruby and Raymond Heun were married in 1952 in Hiawatha, Kansas. The family lived in Dunlap and Sac City before moving to Carroll in 1963. Mr. Heun died in 1970. Ruby had been employed at the former Ocoma Foods Company in Carroll and was a cook at Mac’s Casino Café, Denny’s Restaurant, and MC’s Café in Carroll. She later owned and operated Ruby’s Café in Ralston for ten years and baked pies for several restaurants in the Carroll area. Ruby dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, baking, and bowling.
Ruby is survived by her children, Darrell Wright of Sioux City, Sandra Ware and her husband Rick of Amarillo, Texas, and Linda Ware and her husband Ken of Glidden; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and by her brothers, Ralph Ferguson and his wife Virginia of Indiana, Edwin Ferguson and his wife Sena of Dubuque, and Marvin Ferguson of Dunlap.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, David Wright and Raymond Heun; her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Kenneth Wells; a granddaughter, Jessica Ware; and by three brothers and one sister.
