Remona Determan, 90 of Breda, Iowa died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be Remona’s Great-Grandchildren, Justin Agan and Jennifer Agan. Gift Bearers will be Remona’s Great-Grandson, Kyle Olerich, Remona’s Grandson, Kurt Olerich, and Remona’s Granddaughter, Christy Agan. Eucharistic Ministers will be June Bernholtz and Paul and Rita Ann Venner. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Paul Waterman, Bill Geary, Ron Geary, and Gary Snyder. Casket Bearers will be: Louie Grote, Dan Snyder, Alvin Greve, Chad McDermott, Brian Grundmeier, and Todd Partridge. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form and honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 p.m. Sunday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 5 p.m.
Born on March 9, 1921 at Newell, Iowa, Remona was the daughter of James and Eldora (Mitchell) Geary. She spent her younger years in the Newell and Sac City area and attended school in Sac City. Remona worked at the Lakewood Ballroom where she met her future husband Cletus. Remona married Cletus J. Determan on December 26, 1942 at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda, Iowa. Remona and Cletus loved to socialize with their friends and attended dances at the ballroom frequently. They also enjoyed following their son’s band, Trinity as they played at various places in the area. Remona lived in Breda nearly her entire lifetime and was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, talking on her cell phone and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and the Breda American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years.
Survivors include her children: Betty Jean Olerich and her husband John “Jack” of Carroll, and Gerald “Clete” Determan and his wife Julie of Auburn; two grandchildren: Christy (Brad) Agan of Breda, and Kurt (Angie) Olerich of Lexington, NE; three great-grandchildren: Justin Agan of Breda, Jennifer Agan of Breda, and Kyle Olerich of Lexington, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cletus in July 1986, her daughter Marlene Determan; and 13 siblings.
