Phyllis Schroeder, age 61, of Breda, Iowa, died Friday evening, December 11, 2009, at her residence in Breda.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be Harold Danner and Chuck Thatcher. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren, Zach Eldridge, Hank Schroeder, Alex Stamback, and Abby Stamback. Mass Servers will be Stacy and Stephanie Venner. Eucharistic Ministers will be Ray Huegerich and Sister Ione Nieland, F.S.P.A. The Breda Catholic Order of Foresters and Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Matt Koster, Doug Steinkamp, Jason Nieland, Punky Nieland, Brian Koster, and Rudy Wernimont. Casket Bearers will be Glen Leiting, Dale Schlichte, Leroy Sander, Denny Ludwig, Bob Lenz, and Danny Nieland.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 P.M. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Tuesday by the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Bernard Ladies Guild. There will be a Christian wake service at 6 P.M. Tuesday by St. Bernard Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church in Phyllis’ name.
Mrs. Schroeder was born on June 15, 1948, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rose (Kennebeck) Gute. She grew up in the Willey community and graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School in Glidden in 1966. On June 1, 1968, she was married to Alfred “Fritz” Schroeder at St. Mary Church in Willey. The couple farmed southeast of Breda. Mrs. Schroeder was a homemaker and helped her husband with their farm equipment repair business. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Catholic Order of Foresters, Breda American Legion Auxiliary, National Catholic Society of Foresters, and the Midwest Iowa Old Iron Club. Phyllis enjoyed her family, playing cards, rope making, and tractor shows.
Survivors include her children, Sue Eldridge and her husband Brian of Boone, Allen Schroeder and his wife Tammy of Des Moines, and Debbie Stamback and her husband Mike of Erie, Colorado; grandchildren, Zach Eldridge, Hank Schroeder, Alex Stamback, and Abby Stamback; her brothers, Lavern Gute and his wife Sheryl of Panora, and Jerry Gute and his wife Diane of Willey; mother-in-law, Leona Schroeder of Carroll; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lu and Reg Tryon of Salina, Kansas, and Cathy and Harold Danner of Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Fritz” Schroeder, in December 2007; a son, Danny Schroeder, in July 1994; and by her parents.
