Born on February 22, 1926 near Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Paul was the son of Virgil and Mae (Murphy) Goins. Kelly spent his younger years in Ft. Dodge and attended school there, graduating from Sacred Heart High School with the class of 1944. While attending school in Ft. Dodge, Kelly met his future wife Pat. Following his formal education Kelly served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 during WW II. On November 6, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Pat Loftus at Sacred Heart Church in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. The couple moved to Carroll in 1948 and Kelly was employed by Les Chapman with Midwest Automatic Music. Kelly bought the business in 1965 and owned and operated the business as Kelly Coin Machine, which is owned and operated today by his son Dan. Kelly loved to spoil Pat and always loved his job, interacting with people and always said, “You have to be good to people,” and Kelly always pulled for the underdog. He loved playing cribbage, reading, traveling, playing pinball, and having coffee with his friends. Kelly loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Kelly was a Charter Member and Past President of the Midwest Pool Association, member of the Carroll American Legion Maurice Dunn Post # 7 and was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll.
