Mary Haverman, 98 of Carroll, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass Servers will be Mary’s great-grandchildren: Noah Heuton and Caleb Hensel. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Mary’s granddaughters: Lori Nurse and Marcy Brightwell. Gift Bearers will be Mary’s granddaughters: Donna Geery, Jenny Thelen, Gail Gholston, Brenda Vonnahme, Melanie Hill, Bonnie Heuton, and Michelle Forke. Eucharistic Minister will be Mary’s granddaughter Karen Hensel. Casket Bearers will be Mary’s grandsons: Roger Mueggenberg, Dan Mueggenberg, Kevin Thelen, Doug Brincks, Glen Mueggenberg, Barry Sturm, Jason Brincks, John Paul Mueggenberg, Larry Mueggenberg and Randy Mueggenberg. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, where there will be a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5 p.m.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 a.m. Monday where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on January 31, 1916 at Roselle, Iowa, Mary Ann was the daughter of Henry and Bernadine (Starman) Rotert. She attended Holy Angels School in Roselle and was later married to Lawrence Haverman at Holy Angels Catholic Church on April 23, 1941. Following their marriage Mary and Lawrence made their home southeast of Roselle. A devoted wife and mother, Mary raised six daughters and also assisted her husband with their grain and livestock operation.
Mary was a fantastic cook and also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and quilting. She had a strong devotion to her faith being active in Holy Angels Parish and choir in Roselle, Holy Angels Altar Society, and in 1984 when Lawrence and Mary moved to Carroll she became an active parishioner at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll where she also was a member of the choir. Mary loved her family, hosting family gatherings and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile. For the past 4 years she was a resident at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home where she died on Thursday at the age of 98.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Bernice Mueggenberg and husband Laverne of Sac City, Arlene Mueggenberg and husband Dale of Breda, Leona Mueggenberg and husband John of Breda, Alvina Thelen and husband Allen of Anita, Marian Sturm and husband Bob of Ankeny, and Janet Brincks and husband Ron of Roselle; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lawrence in 2006; her grandchildren, Becky Mueggenberg and Bill Mueggenberg; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Heuton and Zachery Harrison; her sisters: Kate Meiners, Johanna Rotert, Elizabeth Hoffman, and Ann Greving; and her brothers: Henry Rotert, John Rotert, Joe Rotert, Ben Rotert, as well as her brother in childhood, Ben Rotert.
