Marlin Bauer, 75 of Dedham, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Manning Regional Healthcare Center of an apparent heart attack.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be Marlin’s sister-in-law Cindy Bauer and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Marlin’s sister, Lois Beyerink. Gift Bearers and Honorary Casket Bearers will be Marlin’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Marlin’s grandsons’: Kerry Pollman, Ryne Waterbury, Jason Berg and Alex Bauer; Marlin’s brother, Duane Bauer; as well as: Jon Bauer, John Werner, and Ted Koester. The West Central Co-Op and 360 Feeds will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Willey.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by St. Joseph’s Parish.

Marlin John was born on September 13, 1938 at Carroll, Iowa the son of Herman and Alita (Stangl) Bauer. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School in Willey and then stayed home to help his father on their family farm. Marlin completed his schooling in 1976 receiving an Iowa GED. On May 5, 1962 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Wiederien; to this union eight children were born. For most of his lifetime Marlin lived in the Dedham area where he was a hobby farmer raising various livestock over the years; most recently his herd of sheep. He worked for 35 years at Northern Propane (Ferrell Gas), drove semi for Wilfred Meiners and was most currently employed at West Central Co-Op in Dedham. Marlin was a great mechanic also owning and operating Bauer Repair where he rebuilt car engines, semis, tractors, and could literally fix anything. He had a passion for farming and tractors; his favorites being Minneapolis Moline and Massey Ferguson. Marlin was always willing to help out a neighbor or a friend, never expecting anything in return. He enjoyed spending time with his family, liked to “tinker” on the farm, and always enjoyed a social beverage with his friends. He was a former member of the Dedham Fire Department and was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Dedham.
Survivors include his children: Kathy Berg and her husband Mike of Arcadia, Keven Bauer and his special friend Sue Burney of Kansas, Kristine Pollman and her husband Kevin of Sac City, Kimberly Adams of Manning, Kraig Bauer and his wife Cynthia of Oklahoma, Karie Eisma and her husband Kelly of Hawarden, Karla Dorale and her husband Adam of Charter Oak, and Kyndi Jensen and her husband Geoff of Urbandale; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Lois (Ralph) Beyerink of Roselle and Diane (Dan) Seidl of Coon Rapids; his brothers: Kenny (Diane) Bauer of Arcadia, Duane (Cindy) Bauer of Dedham, and Jim (Judy) Bauer of Lake City; his sister-in-law, Judy (Clarence) Ziegmann of Carroll; his special friend Marilyn Reineke Garst of Glidden; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Thomas Adams; his brother, Dennis Bauer; and his nephew, Jeremy Bauer.
