Marian Quinlin, age 97, of Breda, Iowa, died early Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 18, 2010, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be grandchildren, Pat Quinlin and Soley Lathrop. Gift Bearers will be great grandchildren, Hilary Rinker, Noelle Sullivan, Carley Cook, Megan Leonard, and Paige Kalbach. Mass Servers will be Jake Buelt and Matt Wessling. Soloist will be Brian Coyle. Eucharistic Ministers will be Lori Quinlin, Kelly Rinker, and Bonnie Snyder. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the church. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Chris Lathrop, John Quinlin, Dan Quinlin, Ted Quinlin, Tim Quinlin, and Joe Quinlin. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 P.M. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Wednesday by St. Bernard Ladies Guild. There will be a Christian wake service at 5:30 P.M. Wednesday by St. Bernard Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for St. Bernard Parish. Mrs. Quinlin was born on September 24, 1912, at Manson, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mae (Lieb) Smid. When she was one year old her family moved to Breda where she graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1931. Following her formal education she helped her dad at the Breda News Newspaper. On June 5, 1936, she was married to Lester “Mike” Quinlin at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The couple made their home in Breda where they operated the Breda News Newspaper for many years. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and the Breda American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her sons, Jack Quinlin and his wife Carole of North Bend, Wash., and Tom Quinlin and his wife Joan of Ankeny; a daughter-in-law, Hilda Quinlin of Omaha, Nebr.; sixteen grandchildren; and forty-five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester “Mike” Quinlin, in 1973; a son, Richard Quinlin, in 2008; her parents; a brother, Norman Smid; and sisters, Hazel Koenig and Lorna Tiefenthaler.
