Marge was born on October 9, 1942, in Carroll County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Teresa Oswald. She was a graduate of St. Bernard’s Catholic High School in Breda, and St. Catherine’s School of Nursing in Omaha.
On May 16, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert Tigges at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Robert and Marge were blessed to be parents to three children, Elizabeth, Russ, and Tanya.
Marge’s life was deeply rooted in faith. She loved the Lord and His Blessed Mother Mary. She enjoyed being a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she was an active Eucharistic Minister for many years and enjoyed taking communion to shut-ins. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and was a faithful prayer warrior for her family and friends, always willing to intercede on anyone’s behalf.
Marge served our Lord through her calling as a nurse for many years, but her greatest joy was caring for her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Whether through a shared meal, a listening ear, or a gentle word of encouragement, she made everyone feel welcomed and cherished. She was a beloved friend to many and enjoyed sharing time with them as a member of the Red Hat’s Club, the Carroll Municipal Golf Club, and various card clubs.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her devoted and loving husband of 61 years, Robert, her three children: Elizabeth (Jerome) Richardson (Glenwood), Russ (Barb) Tigges (Clive), and Tanya Tigges (Carroll); her grandchildren: Stephanie (Nick) Economos (Clive), Adam (Rachel) Tigges (Waukee), Emily Richardson (Omaha, NE), Angela Richardson (Madison, WI), Jeffrey Richardson (Cedar Rapids), Jerianne Richardson (Iowa City), Sarah Richardson (Glenwood); Mackenzie (Kevin) Smith (Fort Dodge); step-grandchildren: Justin (Anna) Richardson (Durant) and Brianna Richardson (Chicago, Ill.); great-grandchildren: Emerson and Olivia Economos (Clive), Maya Smith (Fort Dodge); step-great-grandchildren: William and Joce Richardson (Durant); her brother Leon (Florence) Oswald (Carroll); sister-in-law: Virginia Oswald (North Platte, NE); brothers-in-law: Louis Tigges (Lidderdale), Dale Tigges (Sioux City) as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Teresa Oswald; siblings: Rita Reicks, Maizie Soyer, Dorothy Vogl, Lola Heim, Gladys Nieland, Arthur, Paul, Charlie, Bill, and Lou Oswald; father and mother-in-law, Louie and Angie Tigges; brother-in-law, Tom Tigges; sister-in law, Anita Tigges; and great-grandson, Noah Economos.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home for their most loving and compassionate care they have provided Marge in her final years of life. Your tenderness, patience, and dedication brought comfort and dignity to her days, and will remain a true blessing to our family.
