Luverne Brinker, 83, of Carroll, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 surrounded by his family at Sunny Brook of Carroll Assisted Living.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service by St. Lawrence Parish at 4:30 p.m.
The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9 a.m. on Monday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on August 1, 1930 at Carroll, Iowa, Luverne was the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Grossman) Brinker. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and later graduated with the Class of 1948 from Carroll High School. Luverne served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Angela Jung at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on April 30, 1955 in Willey, Iowa. They made their home near Mt. Carmel where he farmed until his retirement in 1992 when they moved to the Carroll Community. Luverne was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Lawrence Parish, Breda American Legion, Carroll Knights of Columbus, on the board of the ASCS offices, and involved in many other community organizations. Luverne enjoyed many activities such as bowling, playing cards, golf, and together with Angie and friends had many worldwide travel adventures. He was an avid fan of Kuemper Athletics and always enjoyed watching his grandchildren in whatever event they were in. Luverne’s greatest joy was truly spending time with his entire family.
Survivors include his wife Angela of Carroll; his children: Mike Brinker and wife Robyn of Carroll, Bob Brinker and wife Annie of Severance, CO, Diane Miller and husband Jeff of Mt. Pleasant, Dale Brinker of Ft. Collins, CO, Steve Brinker and his wife Cori of Carroll, and Sheila Scevers and her husband Tracy of Abilene, TX; 18 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lois Sibenaller of Earling, Mary Jo Brinker of Weston, WI, and Jerrine Brinker of Weston, WI; one brother: Daryl ( Janet) Brinker of Minneapolis, WI; his sister-in-law, Gayle Brinker of California; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Luverne was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Lynn Brinker and William Brinker in infancy; and his brother-in-law, Eugene Sibenaller.
