Lois Anthofer, age 76, of Breda, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 28, 2009, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lector will be Donald Masching. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren, Benjamin, Joe, and Meranda Anthofer. Mass Servers will be Jake Buelt and Matt Wessling. Eucharistic Ministers will be Paul and Rita Ann Venner and Mary Kay Uhlenkamp. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be Phil Pudenz, Mike Ruhnke, Tim Wempe, Tom Wittry, Jerry Elston, Larry Pudenz, Duane Pudenz, and Jeremy Pudenz. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Friday by St. Bernard Ladies Guild. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by St. Bernard Parish. Mrs. Anthofer was born on June 21, 1932, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy (Broich) Pudenz. She spent her younger years in the Mt. Carmel community and graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School and then worked in the Dietary Kitchen at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. On October 8, 1955, she was married to Joseph J. Anthofer at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Msgr. O.W. Koester officiating. The couple lived at Coon Rapids until 1971 when they moved to Breda. Mrs. Anthofer helped her husband with their business, Joe’s Repair Shop, and later worked for Neumayer Store and Locker and Mike’s Meats in Breda and Carroll until ill health forced her retirement in 2005. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and Breda American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Anthofer enjoyed her family, sewing, cooking, and baking. Survivors include her sons, Rick Anthofer of Breda, and Dave Anthofer of Breda; grandchildren, Benjamin Anthofer, Joe Anthofer, and Meranda Anthofer; a brother, Dennis Pudenz and his wife Ida of Lake View; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Bonnie Anthofer of Coon Rapids, Bernadine Reiling of Coon Rapids, Clara Anthofer of Carroll, Albert and LaVonne Anthofer of Carroll, Theresa and Alan Linscheid of Arizona, Irene and John Scott of Coon Rapids, Betty and George Hatton of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Ron and Rita Anthofer of Coon Rapids, and Joyce and Kenneth Schmidt of Juneau, Wisc.; and by a special aunt, Susie Broich of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Anthofer, in 2004; a daughter-in-law, Lori Anthofer; and a brother, Duane “Whitey” Pudenz.
