Leonard Pudenz, age 86, of Carroll, Iowa, died Monday, August 25, 2008, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 29, 2008, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be Jennifer Krom, Jill Podraza, Stephanie Motl, Amanda Meyers, Paige Rupiper, and Lauren Rupiper. Gift Bearers will be Sarah and Ethan Steele, Cortny and Carson Pudenz, Cole Collison, Luke Rupiper, Adam Podraza, and Christopher Podraza. Mass Servers will be Spencer Collison, Jake Pudenz, and Kelsey Pudenz. Eucharistic Ministers will be Kris Collison, Kelly Parent, and Rita Hoebing. Casket Bearers will be Paul Motl, Shane Daley, Michael Meyers, Christopher Meyers, Thomas Meyers, Justin Pudenz, Zachary Collison, and Taylor Collison. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Thursday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Thursday by St. Lawrence Parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for St. Anthony Hospice, Stewart Memorial Hospice, or the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Mr. Pudenz was born on January 10, 1922, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mayme (Wiederin) Pudenz. He spent his younger years in the Mt. Carmel community and graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. He entered the U.S. Army in April 1945 and served during World War II with the Occupation Army of Japan. He was honorably discharged in October 1946. On January 27, 1948, he was married to Bernice Kanne at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The couple farmed one mile south of Lidderdale until 1992 when they moved to their home in Carroll. Mr. Pudenz was a long time grain farmer and cattle feeder. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Knights of Columbus, and the Carroll American Legion. He was a former member and lay director at Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale. Mr. Pudenz enjoyed his family, farming, playing golf, reading, playing cards, playing baseball in his younger years, and the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Pudenz of Carroll; children, Deborah Motl and her husband Dr. John of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Pamela Daley of Omaha, Nebr., Patricia Daley and her husband Dr. Timothy of Phoenix, Ariz., Wayne Pudenz of Carroll, Joyce Meyers and her husband Stephen of Omaha, Nebr., Lynn Pudenz and his wife Teri of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kim Rupiper and her husband Mark of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kris Collison and her husband Curt of Arcadia; 24 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Julitta O’Tool of Auburn, Wilma Boes of Breda, Edna Knobbe of Rose Creek, Minn., and Rita Hoebing and her husband John of Columbus, Nebr.; brothers, Edwin Pudenz and his wife Leota of Carroll, Richard Pudenz and his wife Bea of Carroll, and James Pudenz and his wife Mary of Carroll; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Clarice Pudenz of Carroll, Jean Pudenz of Carroll, Jim and Marcella Kanne of Carroll, Lois Bierl of Carroll, and Lucille and Robert Schaefer of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy O’Tool; brothers, Wilbur, LeRoy, and Herbert Pudenz; and a brother, Joseph Pudenz, in infancy.
