Kenneth Janning, 74 of Carroll, died Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson, St. Lawrence Choir, and EveVonne Muff. Mass Servers will be Devon and Dakota Bauer. Lector for the funeral mass will be Sally Mason. Gift Bearers will be Kenny’s grandchildren: Hannah, Lauren, Alex, Payton, Carson, and Kendra Janning. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Sally Mason, Mary Lou Janning and Pat Soppe. Casket Bearers will be Kenny’s grandsons: Conner Janning and Christopher Janning; as well as good friends: Don Brown, Gerald Baumhover, Kenny Sanders, Marvin Schettler, Mudd Irlmeier, and Rick Kramer. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on November 30, 1938 at Carroll, Iowa, Kenneth was the son of John B. and Theodora R. (Schoeppner) Janning. He attended grade school and later graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. Following his formal education Kenny enlisted with the National Guard where he served a brief time in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. On May 11, 1963 he married June Zimmerman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. Kenny and June made their home in Carroll where they owned and operated Kenneth Janning Terrazzo and Tile Company. Kenny loved to work, work, and work; and passed his talents of the trade down to his sons. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed time at his lake home at Lake View, gardening, fishing, and hunting. Kenny was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.
Kenneth is survived by his children: Keith (Connie) Janning of Carroll, Mike (Cindy) Janning of Carroll, Pat Janning of Carroll, Rhonda (Mark) Von Ahn of Carroll, and Scott (Cindy) Janning of Carroll; 8 grandchildren; one sister, Lois (Dan) Mein of Leavenworth, KS; his brothers: John J. (Mary Ann) Janning of Carroll, Bernard Janning of Carroll, Lowell (Julia) Janning of Glidden, and Earnest (Diane) Janning of Glidden; his in-laws: Mary Lou Janning of Carroll, Art Becker of Charter Oak, Cliff Zimmerman of Sioux City, Florence Tatman of Sac City, Beulah (Wes) Cole of Sac City, Ruth (Jim) Mason of Sac City, Earl (Karon) Zimmerman of Sac City, John (Sandy) Zimmerman of Sac City, Chuck (Joan) Zimmerman of Sac City, Ted (Alice) Zimmerman of Sac City, Dennis Strodtman of Joliet, IL, Harlan Schade of Sac City, Rita Zimmerman of Cherokee, Jean Zimmerman of Kansas, and Sharon Zimmerman-Pearson of Sac City; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife June in January of 2012; sisters: Louise Grossman and Dorothy Becker; and his brothers: Lawrence and Jerome Janning.
