June Rose Janning, age 70, of Carroll, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, January 25, 2012, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 30, 2012, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. The casket will be taken to the church at 9 A.M. Monday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Lector will be Sally Mason. Gift Bearers will be June’s grandchildren, Hannah Janning, Lauren Janning, Alex Janning, Payton Janning, Carson Janning, and Kendra Janning. Eucharistic Ministers will be Urban and Jean Knobbe and Bonnie Danner. Music will be Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir with Evonne Muff as soloist. Mass Servers will be Zachary Mason, Jared Tigges, and Josh Tigges. Honorary Palbearers will be June’s brothers, Cliff, John, Earl, Chuck, and Ted Zimmerman, and brothers-in-law, Jim Mason and Wes Cole. Casket Bearers will be June’s grandson’s, Conner Janning and Christopher Janning, and friends, Don Brown, Arlo Buck, Gerald Baumhover, and Kenneth Sanders. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Sunday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Sunday followed by a Christian wake service at 5 P.M. Sunday by St. Lawrence Parish. On line condolences may be left for June’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
June was born on June 20, 1941, at Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Marie (Barlow) Zimmerman. She spent her younger years in the Sac City community and graduated from Sac City High School with the Class of 1959. Following high school she worked in Des Moines for a short time. June and Kenneth Janning were married on May 11, 1963, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sac City with Msgr. J.E. Tolan officiating. The couple made their home in Carroll and June served as secretary of the family terrazzo and tile business for many years. June did extensive volunteer work, serving as site director for the Carroll Congregate Meals, volunteering at St. Anthony Hospital, and visiting nursing homes. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, and the Garden Club. June enjoyed shopping, gambling, gardening and flowers, her coffee club, and entertaining family and friends.
June is survived by her husband, Kenneth Janning of Carroll; her children, Keith Janning and his wife Connie of Carroll, Mike Janning and his wife Cindy of Carroll, Pat Janning of Carroll, Rhonda Janning and her fiancé Mark Von Ahn of Carroll, and Scott Janning and his wife Cindy of Carroll; eight grandchildren; her brothers, Cliff Zimmerman of Sioux City, John Zimmerman and his wife Sandy of Sac City, Earl Zimmerman and his wife Karon of Sac City, Chuck Zimmerman and his wife Joan of Sac City, and Ted Zimmerman and his wife Alice of Sac City; her sisters, Beulah Cole and her husband Wes of Sac City, Florence Tatman of Sac City, and Ruth Mason and her husband James of Sac City; by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis Strodtman of Joliet, Il, Harlan Schade of Sac City, Rita Zimmerman of Cherokee, Jean Zimmerman of Kansas, Sharon Zimmerman-Pearson of Sac City, John J. and Mary Ann Janning of Carroll, Bernard and Arlene Janning of Carroll, Lois and Dan Mein of Leavenworth, KS, Lowell and Julia Janning of Glidden, Earnest and Diane Janning of Glidden, Mary Lou Janning of Carroll, and Art Becker of Charter Oak; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Pearl Bettin, Lois Schade, and Mary Strodtman; brothers, Robert “Bud” Zimmerman, Kenneth Zimmerman, Bill Zimmerman, Jack Zimmerman, Don Zimmerman, and James Zimmerman in infancy; and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glen Bettin, Phyllis Zimmerman-Bryant, Neva Joan Zimmerman, Sharon L. Zimmerman, Bonnie Zimmerman, Marvin “Pete” Peterson, Mahlon Tatman, Dorothy Becker, Lawrence and Jean Janning, Jerome Janning, and Louise and Darol Grossman.
