Julian was born on March 30, 1918 in Maple River, Iowa, the son of Fred Julich and Frances (Kries) Julich. He spent his younger years in the Maple River community, where he graduated from St. Francis School. Following his formal education, he worked as a farmhand for his father and others until he married Lucille Mundt on June 2, 1942 at St. Rose of Lima in Denison. He worked for his father-in-law for two years and then farmed near Glidden. In 1947, the family moved to the Kries homestead east of Mt. Carmel, where Julian and Lucille lived until early this spring. He began his career as a brick mason in 1950 and helped build St. Bernard School in Breda and St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. He joined the Weitz Company of Des Moines in 1951 and later worked for Forrest and Associates before retiring in 1981. Julian’s career extended across central Iowa and included supervising the construction of Hoover High School in Des Moines. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt.
