Jerome Broich, 78 of Carroll, died late Saturday evening, March 3, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Jerry’s daughter-in-law, Barb Broich. Gift Bearers will be Jerry’s great-grandchildren: Abby, Erin, and Ethan Olberding. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Brian Langel, Jim Heithoff, and K.C. Broich. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jerry’s grandchildren: Matt Olberding, Jacob Broich, Allison Olberding, Kelly Lawson, Beth Broich, Samantha Broich, Elaina Broich, Emily Broich, Hayley Broich, and Natalie Broich. Casket Bearers will be Jerry’s grandchildren: Ben Broich, Joe Broich, Brandon Broich, Chris Broich, Dave Olberding, and Alex Olberding. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m on Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service by Holy Spirit Parish at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. Wednesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on March 22, 1933 at Willey, Iowa, Jerome was the son of John and Emilia (Neppel) Broich. Jerry attended St. Mary Grade School in Willey and later graduated from Carroll High School in 1951. On June 25, 1955 he was married to Doris Goecke at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll by Fr. Arthur Poeckes. Following their marriage they made their home in Carroll and Jerry worked at Coast to Coast. Jerry and Doris then moved to Roselle and in 1958 began working for Cal-Car Company, where he worked nearly all of his working career, retiring in 1996. While employed for Cal-Car, Jerry also owned and operated Broich Grocery Store for several years. In 1996 Jerry and Doris moved back to the Carroll Community. He enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casinos, fishing and being outdoors. Jerry loved socializing with his family and his many friends. He was a member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus, former member of Holy Angels Parish in Roselle, and was currently a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
Jerry is survived by his wife Doris of Carroll; his children: Deb Gostele and her husband David of Ames, Rick Broich and his wife Lucy of Roselle, Doug Broich and his wife Barb of Coon Rapids, Ron Broich and his wife Eileen of Omaha, NE and Joe Broich and his wife Sharon of Burnsville, MN; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Robert Broich of Carroll, Clayton (Bernita) Broich of Carroll, Delores (Vern) Langel of Omaha, NE, Marilyn (Dale) Snyder of Breda, Joleen (Ron) Klocke of Carroll, John (Mary Jo) Broich of Carroll, and Laurel Jean (Denis) Heithoff of Carroll; his sisters-in-law: Yvonne Broich of Carroll, Mary Gute of Eugene, OR, and Norma Goecke of Carroll; his brother-in-law, Floyd (Janie) Goecke of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and many friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin and Thomas Broich; and his sister-in-law, Edra Broich.
