Born on June 22, 1923 at Arcadia, Iowa, Ivan Francis was the son of Herman and Margaret (Bueltel) Schrad. He spent his entire life time in the Arcadia area and graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1941. Following his formal education Ivan was employed by Herb Hudson at H&H Fruit House, and later worked at Omar Bread Company as a salesman and route supervisor. On January 20, 1948 he married Florence Soppe at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Carroll. To this union were six children. Florence died in March of 1986. On February 25, 1989, Ivan married Mary Pat Olson at Dow City, Iowa. Mary died in May of 2010.
In 1961 Ivan began farming and was always active in the farm operation. He loved to do field work and in the early years of farming he ran a dairy herd. Ivan enjoyed watching the corn and bean markets over a cup of coffee. He always had a garden and was especially proud of the peaches he canned from his own peach trees. In October of 2010 after hauling the last load of corn in from the field, Ivan fell and moved to Carroll where he was a resident at Regency Park Nursing Home. He enjoyed the fellowship with the residents and the excellent care he received at Regency Park. Ivan still paid close attention to the corn and bean markets while he was in the nursing home. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia.
