Gladys Halbur, 91 of Halbur, died Thursday morning, March 19, 2015, at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Music for the mass will be by Julie Sibbel and the St. Augustine Choir. Gladys’ granddaughter, Amy Croghan will be the soloist for the funeral mass. Lector will be Linda Halbur. Gift Bearers will be Gladys’ great-granddaughters: Kennedy, Sydney, and Harley Halbur. Eucharistic Minister will be Margaret Denker. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Melanie Jensen, Amy Croghan, Jennifer Halbur, Sarah Halbur, Mandy Halbur, Sherry Halbur, Rebecca Halbur, and Chrissy Halbur. Casket Bearers will be: Bryan Halbur, Dan Halbur, Scott Halbur, Ryan Halbur, Kevin Halbur, Evan Larson, and Jason Croghan. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in Halbur.
Friends may call at St. Augustine Church in Halbur after 4:30 p.m. on Monday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church until time of the funeral mass.

Born on September 22, 1923 at Carroll, Iowa, Gladys was the daughter of Phillip and Katherine (Eischeid) Dentlinger. Gladys spent most of her lifetime in the Halbur area and attended St. Augustine School. Following her schooling Gladys held several jobs in the Carroll area to help assist her family.
On May 2, 1949, she was united in marriage to Vincent Halbur at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The couple made their home southwest of Halbur where Vincent was engaged in farming and Gladys raised her family and was a devoted homemaker and housewife. Gladys always loved tending to her flowers and her garden and sharing the fruits of her labors with her family and many friends. She also enjoyed reading and feeding and watching the birds in her yard.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, attending and hosting family gatherings. Gladys had a deep devotion to her faith; praying the rosary many times daily and was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Parish where she was active with the choir and ladies guild.
Gladys is survived by her children: Tom (Nancy) Halbur of Custer, SD, Ron (Maureen) Halbur of Manning, Glenn Halbur of Denison, Vic Halbur of Alden, Jane Halbur of Aurora, IL, Judy Halbur of Des Moines, and Carol Larson of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother: Jim (Rita) Dentlinger of Glidden; one sister: Jeanette Venner of Carroll; her sister-in-law, Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vincent; three daughters in infancy: Mary, Marie, and Diane; a son in infancy, Vincent Jr; her sisters: Agatha Fischer and Angie Riesberg; her brother, Jerome Dentlinger; and her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws: Clarence Fischer, Lester Riesberg, Ed Venner, Ray and Dorothy Halbur and Harry and Rita Halbur.
