Florence Schroer, age 92, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Monday, May 3, 2010, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M., Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be Abbey Williams, Cheri Zentz, and Tina Lytle. Gift Bearers will be Julie Gore, Mary Swanson, Brenda Zenk, Samantha Prussing, Hannah Prussing, and Cathy Toms. Soloist will be Lindsey Moss. Eucharistic Ministers will be Marilyn Foley and Urban and Jean Knobbe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Schroer, David Schroer, Troy Porter, Shawn Porter, Derek Porter, and Brent Porter. Casket Bearers will be Daniel Prussing, Joshua Williams, Aaron Williams, Keith Mell, Curtis Mell, and Joseph Kramer. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Thursday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 P.M. Thursday by St. Lawrence Parish.
Florence was born on July 22, 1917, at Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lillian (Rohe) Trecker. She spent her younger years in the Dedham and Willey communities and attended St. Mary School at Willey. Following her education she helped on the family farm and did domestic work for families in the area. On January 31, 1939, she was married to Anthony L. Schroer at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. The couple farmed in the Guthrie Center, Halbur, and Templeton area until 1953 when they moved to their farm north of Manilla. In December 1979 they moved to their home in Carroll. Florence was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Florence enjoyed her family, quilting, and gardening.
Survivors include her son, Robert Schroer and wife Theresa of Carroll; her daughters, Marilyn Porter and husband Don of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, JoAnn Mell and husband Paul of Norway, Linda Prussing and husband Roger of Ida Grove, and Donna Williams and husband Bruce of Villisca; twenty-two grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson; a sister, Phyllis Riesberg of Carroll; and sisters-in-law, Edna Mae Trecker of Halbur, Mary Trecker of Carroll, and Margie Schroer of Owatonna, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Schroer, in August 1998; her parents; brothers, LaVern and Merle Trecker; a brother-in-law, Leonard Riesberg; and one brother and one sister in infancy.
