Evelyn Thielen, age 83, of Carroll, Iowa, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father James McCormick. The casket will be taken to the church at 9 A.M. Wednesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be Sherry Gute. Gift Bearers will be Jennifer and Maya Thorne and Sherry, Christina, Mitchel, Anna, and Tessa Gute. Casket Bearers will be Rusty Gute, Doug Kruse, Joe Venteicher, Cheryl Cruchelow, Larry Cruchelow, Larry Thielen, Howard Thielen, and Duane Thielen. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Tuesday by the Legion of Mary. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Tuesday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Thielen was born on May 3, 1925, at Willey, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Thereisa (Becker) Brincks. She spent her younger years in the Willey and Scranton communities and attended St. Mary School in Willey. On June 26, 1945, she was married to Norbert F. Thielen at St. Paul Catholic Church in Scranton with Father Perrien officiating. The couple farmed in the Coon Rapids and Templeton area until 1965 when they moved to Carroll. She had been employed for many years at St. Anthony Nursing Home and did domestic work for several Carroll businesses. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Thielen enjoyed her family, flowers, shopping, and helping out her family and friends. Survivors include her children, Richard Thielen and his wife Eileen Ostlund of Boone, and Janet Rose and her husband Paul of Carroll; granddaughters, Sherry Gute and her husband Rusty of Carroll, and Jennifer Thorne and her husband Dustin of Japan; great grandchildren, Maya Thorne and Christina, Mitchel, Anna, and Tessa Gute; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Thielen of Carroll, Romain and Rose Thielen of Granger, and Peter Thielen Jr. of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norbert Thielen, in January 1991; and brother, Norbert Brincks and his wife Delores.
