Evelyn Jennewein, age 90 of Yankton, South Dakata, and formerly of Breda, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Joe Dillinger. Mass Servers will be Miriah Masching and Matt Wessling. Organist will be Marilyn Hundling. Music will be by Norm Herman as soloist and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lectors will be Chris Grabow and Doug Jennewein. Gift Bearers will be: Lisa Herman, Mary Jennewein, Lindsey Jennewein, and Thomas Jennewein. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Leonard and Jean Grote and Bev Bruning. Casket Bearers will be: Doug Jennewein, Mark Jennewein, Joshua Grabow, Marvin Pudenz, Roger Schwabe, and Jason Hacker. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 3:30 p.m., Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., followed by a Christian wake service by the parish at 6:30 p.m. Online condolences may be left for Evelyn’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Evelyn A. Jennewein was born on August 12, 1920 at Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Clara (Schaefer) Bruning. She grew up in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard High School. Evelyn was married to William P. Jennewein on April 3, 1943 at San Luia Obispo, California. They lived in California and later moved to Olympia, Washington where their son William N. was born. After her husband’s discharge from the Army, they returned to Breda and made their home there. She worked for Ocken Furniture in Breda and then worked as a telephone operator for the Breda Telephone Company. Evelyn also worked as a housekeeper for several years. She enjoyed sewing, tatting, doing crossword puzzles, working on the family genealogy, and caring for her dachshunds. She loved spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of St. Bernard’s Parish, Christian Mothers, and the Breda American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn moved to Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota in September, 2007.
Survivors include her son: William N. Jennewein and his wife Shirley of Yankton, SD; five grandchildren: Lisa Herman, Mark Jennewein, Mary Jennewein, Doug (Lindsey) Jennewein, all of South Dakota, and Chris (Joshua) Grabow of Minnesota; six great-grandchildren: Bethany Renee Herman, Thomas Norman Jennewein, Nathan William Grabow, Isabel Faith Grabow, Thea Evelyn Jennewein, and Sophia Grace Jennewein, as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William P. Jennewein, her brother Norman, and infant son, Joseph.
