Evan Kuker, 81 of Fort Dodge and formerly of Carroll, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 408 N. 8th St., Ft. Dodge, IA. The Celebrant will be Msgr. Kevin McCoy. Pianist for the mass will be Hal Hinds. Special music will be by Evan’s granddaughters, Megan and Tessa Gonzalez. Lectors will be Evan’s daughters: Lisa Amerine, Kristin Gonzalez and Rachel Weaver. Gift Bearers will be Evan’s sisters, Joleen Happe, Rilla Soetmelk and LaVonne Wernimont. Eucharistic Ministers will be Evan’s daughter, Sharon Heidt and her husband Curt. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Evan’s brothers: Marvin, Morris, Ronald, Allan, Richard and Robert Kuker. Casket Bearers will be: Karl Kuker, Kenneth Kuker, Jared Kuker, Curt Heidt, Nancy Kuker, and Matt Kuker. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. Sunday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5 p.m. The casket will be moved to Corpus Christi Church at 9:30 a.m. Monday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on January 27, 1931 at Carroll, Iowa, Evan was the son of Mathias and Eleanor (Hoesing) Kuker. He attended grade school in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1948. On March 27, 1951 he married Marian Renze at Holy Angels Church in Roselle, Iowa. To this union were six children: Sharon, Karl, Kristin, Kenneth, Lisa and Rachel. The couple later separated. Evan was a grain and livestock farmer in the Pocahontas and Carroll area and also farmed for several years in Etter, Texas. In the late 70’s he returned to Iowa where he farmed and was a welder near Humboldt until an accidental fall disabled him from working. For the past twenty years he was living in the Fort Dodge Community where he was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Evan enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, dancing, and was devoted to his faith and his family.
Survivors include his children: Sharon Heidt and her husband Curt of Clive, Karl Kuker and his wife Nancy of Amarillo, TX, Kristin Gonzalez of Garland, TX, Kenneth Kuker of St. Peters, MO, Lisa Amerine of Merkel, TX, and Rachel Weaver of Bozeman, MT; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Lois (Dwight) Graham of Polson, MT, Joleen (Gene) Happe of Burnsville, MN, LaVonne (Leon) Wernimont of Carroll, Rilla (Lloyd) Soetmelk of Logan, and Jacque (Darrell) Rattenborg of Audubon; his brothers: Marvin Kuker of Carroll, Morris Kuker of Auburn, NE, Ronald Kuker of Clarinda, Allan (Margaret) Kuker of Denison, Richard Kuker of Omaha, NE, and Robert Kuker of Sedona, AZ; his sister-in-law, Pam (Jim) Deal of Anoka,MN; as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended relatives.
Evan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas Kuker; his granddaughter, Gayle Nicole Kuker; his son-in-law, William Josh Amerine; and his longtime friend, Beverly Rossing.
