Emma Mayer, 88 of Carroll, died late Saturday evening, April 6, 2013 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Amy Getty – Kier. Gift Bearers will be Kathy Willenborg and Amanda Willenborg. Casket Bearers will be: Keith Bauer, Kelly Bauer, Ben Halbur, Ron Mayer, Mark Willenborg and Bill Willenborg. Burial will be a 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass time at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Emma’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Born on June 29, 1924 at Templeton, Iowa, Emma was the daughter of George and Catherine (Kettman) Willenborg. The family lived in the Templeton area for a brief time before moving to Dedham where Emma received her education at St. Joseph’s School. On February 8, 1955 she married Joseph Mayer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Carroll and Emma worked for H & R Cleaners and later Kasperbauer Cleaners for over 50 years. Emma also cleaned homes in the Carroll community and worked for many years cleaning at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed sewing, quilting, and socializing with her friends. Emma was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, ladies guild, Dedham American Legion Auxiliary, and Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Wurzer of Carroll; her sisters-in-law: Dorothy Halbur of Carroll, Veronica Quandt of Carroll, and Verna Mayer of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph in 1973; parents-in-law, Frank and Theresa Mayer; and two brothers: William and George Willenborg.
