Donald Francis Ferguson, age 84, of Brewster, Nebraska, died peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2008, at the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M., Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the United Church of Christ in Brewster. Officiating will be Rev. David L. Hansen. Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. Sunday at the church. Casket Bearers will be Timothy Cook, Nicholas Collison, Ryan Hunter, Cory Anderson, Dwaine Ferguson, Steve Forehead, and Ron Albrecht. Burial will be at St. Anselms Cemetery in Anselmo, Nebraska. The Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow, Nebraska, is in charge of funeral arrangements. The Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of local funeral arrangements. Mr. Ferguson was born on December 21, 1923, at the family ranch in Blaine County, Nebraska, the son of Robert W. and Ella Viola (Crayne) Ferguson. He graduated from Brewster High School and attended the Grand Island School of Business. After working in Washington D.C. he returned to the Ferguson ranch spending the rest of his life as a rancher. Doing a day’s work on the ranch was Don’s idea of ultimate happiness. He had a special interest in and love for horses and all other animals. Don’s family and friends were blessed by his generous spirit and sense of humor. Don and Mary Elizabeth Cox-Hunter were married on March 24, 1963, at St. Anselms Church in Anselmo. The couple moved to the Carroll, Iowa, area in December 2005. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Ferguson of Carroll; daughters, Margaret Clark and her husband Joe of Carroll, and Franci Alves and her husband Joe of Dixon, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Janice Hunter of North Platte, Nebr.; grandchildren, Tana Chicarelli and her husband Gary, Kate Gypson and her husband Ward, Cory Anderson, Amy Volquartsen and her husband Scott, Stacy Miller and her husband Ross, Timothy Cook, Ryan Hunter and his wife Marcy, and Elizabeth Hunter; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Ferguson and his wife Bonnie of Brewster, Nebr.; nieces, Cindy Forehead and her husband Steve, and Shelley Albrecht and her husband Ron; and a nephew, Dwaine Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas Hunter; son-in-law, John Cook; and sisters, Florence Marshall and Lillian Zigler.
