Daniel Mielk, 48 of Breda, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 8, 2016 at his residence near Breda.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Brian Feller. Mass servers will be Jack Tiefenthaler and Devon Bauer. Music will be by Kate Cuddy, St. Lawrence Choir with Jean Knobbe as cantor. Lector for the funeral mass will be Ron Eich. Gift Bearers will be: Kena Mielk, Abbie Motsinger, Nicole Marsh-Bowen, Samantha Marsh, Becca Marsh, and Caity Mielk. Eucharistic Ministers will be Jim Eich and Ron and Jan Eich. Casket Bearers will be: Tom Schechinger, Bruce Boes, Brent Tiefenthaler, Bob Bauer, Dan Dreessen, Todd Jansonius, Ron Mohr, and Devin Pudenz. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church until time of the funeral mass.

Born on December 15, 1967 at Carroll, Iowa, Daniel was the son of James and Patricia (Christensen) Mielk. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1986. Dan went on to receive a degree in diesel mechanics at DMACC in Ankeny. He worked for TMC in Des Moines before moving back to Carroll. He worked as a mechanic for Tiefenthaler Ag-Lime in Breda for most of his career.
Dan enjoyed fishing and hunting; his greatest joy was his daughter Kena.
Dan is survived by his daughter Kena of Breda; Shell Dornath of Breda and her daughter Dani Murray of Olathe, KS; his parents, Jim and Pat Mielk of Carroll; his siblings: Mike Mielk and his wife Cathy of Ankeny, Kathy Marsh and her husband Gregg of Mapleton, Diane Mielk of Santa Barbara, CA, Carolyn Tingwald and her husband Jeff of Grimes, and Colleen Motsinger and her husband Mark of Des Moines; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other extended relatives.
Dan was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his uncle on his fathers side.
