Dale Steinkamp, 73 of Carroll, died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at his residence in Carroll surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Mass servers will be Kayla Venner and Josh Tigges. Music will be by Sue Feilmeier, Holy Spirit Choir, and All Strings Attached. Lector will be Kyle Vonnahme. Gift Bearers will be: Jessica Steinkamp, Carissa Steinkamp, Corynn Steinkamp, Rachel Steinkamp and Ashley Winchester. Eucharistic Ministers will be Julie Steinkamp, Gene Steinkamp and Vince Gross. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Vince Gross, Wayne Reiman, Larry Behrens, Leon Tigges, Laverne “Toby” Hoffman, Clete Behrens, and Clete Nedved. Casket Bearers will be: Kyle Vonnahme, Ben Vonnahme, Glenn Sturm, Dennis Steinkamp, Keith Langel, and Greg Trachsel. The Carroll 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Maple River.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Dale, the youngest of 14 children, was born on December 29, 1940 at Breda, Iowa the son of John and Susan (Schulte) Steinkamp. He spent his younger years in the Breda area and attended St. Bernard’s School. Following his schooling Dale worked for several farmers in the area and was then employed with Gjellefeld Construction.
On September 8, 1962 he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Venner at St. Francis Catholic Church in Maple River. They resided in Fertile, Iowa until 1976 when they moved to their home west of Carroll. This is where they raised their family and Dale was engaged in grain and livestock farming. In 2002, Dale and Ruth moved to their current home in Carroll. In his semi-retirement, Dale was employed for over 10 years as Region XII transit driver.
Dale enjoyed gardening, tending to his home, fishing, playing cards, having coffee with his friends at McDonalds, and traveling; especially the last few winters in Arizona. Dale’s greatest joy in life was his entire family and also loved attending and supporting his grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish; Carroll 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and longtime member of St. Francis Parish in Maple River where his was active as past President of the Men’s Club, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, choir member, and was also instrumental in planning the 75th Jubilee for St. Francis.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Ann Steinkamp of Carroll; his children: Bob (Julie) Steinkamp of Arcadia, Randy (Barb) Steinkamp of Sac City, Kevin (Marie) Steinkamp of Logan, and Cathy (John) Vonnahme of Arcadia; his grandchildren: Jessica Steinkamp, Carissa Steinkamp, Corynn Steinkamp, Rachel Steinkamp, Kyle Vonnahme, and Ben Vonnahme; his step-granddaughter, Ashley Winchester; his siblings: Deloris Sturm of Carroll, Roger (Marge) Steinkamp of Ankeny, Duane Steinkamp of Breda, John Steinkamp of Carroll, Lois Sturm of Breda, Gene Steinkamp of Granger, and Rita (Dave) Roth of Altoona; his sisters-in-law: Lucy Steinkamp of Englewood, CO and Mary Ann Steinkamp of Madrid; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and many friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Irene Sturm; his brothers: Norville, Merle, and Donald Steinkamp; a brother Ivan in infancy; a sister Anita in infancy; his sisters-in-law: Delores and Marilyn Steinkamp; and his brothers-in-law: John, Ed, and Bert Sturm.
