Colett Meyers, age 86, of Lake View, died Monday, February 6, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. The celebrant will be Fr. Joe Dillinger assisted by Deacon Butch Stone. Music will be by Sue Barney and the St. Joseph Choir. Lector for the mass will be Mike Meyers. Gift Bearers will be Margaret Quandt, Mary Rourke, and Sharon Meyers. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Elizabeth Walker, Dianna Meyers, Ashley Quandt, Elizabeth Shocklee, Stella Walker, Lydia Quandt, Wyatt Quandt, and Bristol Walker. Casket Bearers will be Jessica Hammer, Jaque Meyers, Tyler Quandt, Timothy Meyers, Tony Quandt, Trevin Quandt, and Jeremy Hammer. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, at St. Joseph’s Church in Wall Lake and continue until the time of the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be applied towards a later designation.

Born on June 2, 1930 at Auburn, Iowa, Colett was the daughter of Arthur and Marguerite (Grote) Derner. She grew up near Auburn where she attended country school. In 1939 the Derner family moved to a farm near Breda, and Colett finished her formal education by graduating from St. Bernard’s High School. After high school she enrolled at St. Anthony Nursing School in Carroll, graduating in 1951.
On April 21, 1954 Colett was united in marriage to Robert Meyers at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. Colett continued to work as a nurse until 1955 when she became a devoted homemaker after the birth of their first child. In 1960 they moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa, in addition to being a homemaker, Colett worked at the Long View Nursing Home, and Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley. In 1989 they moved to Lake View, Iowa where she worked part time at Twilight Acres nursing home until her retirement.
Colett enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, traveling, playing cards, and afternoon drives with her husband Bob. Most of all Colett enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Colett was a member of the St. Anthony Nurses Alumni Association, National Catholic Society of Foresters, Breda American Legion Auxiliary, and St. Joseph’s Parish.
Left to celebrate Colett’s life are her children: Mike (Linda) Meyers of Blue Springs, MO, Margaret (Dale) Quandt of Carroll, Marty (Sara) Meyers of Independence, MO, Steve (Chris) Meyers of Independence, MO, Mary Lou (Tim) Rourke of Omaha, NE, Sharon Meyers of Columbus Junction, and Kenny Meyers of Sitka, AK; her grandchildren: Jessica (Jeremy) Hammer, Jaque Meyers, Elizabeth (Cooper) Walker, Tyler Quandt, Dianna Meyers, Timothy (fiancé Elizabeth Shocklee) Meyers, Tony (Ashley) Quandt, and Trevin Quandt; great-grandchildren: Stella Walker, Lydia Quandt, Wyatt Quandt, and Bristol Walker. Also surviving are her siblings: Mae (Mark) Knobbe of Carroll, Eileen Bruning of Garden Grove, CA, Gene (Vera) Derner of Dedham, Ione Schloegel of Rochester, MN, Annette Ratigan of Bancroft, Jim (Lollie) Derner of Sac City, and Don (Peg) Derner of Lake View, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Colett was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on October 19, 2015, an infant son, John Paul Meyers, Her parents: Art and Marguerite Derner, her siblings: Zeta (Ray) Glass Alma Derner, and Bill Derner, and her brothers-in-law: Glen Bruning, Frank Schloegel, and Bob Ratigan, and her parents-in-law: Alfred and Dorothy Meyers.
