Clarence Fischer, 94, of rural Dedham, died early Wednesday morning at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann, assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Faye Seidl and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Dennis Fischer and Gene Tranel. Gift Bearers will be Clarence’s granddaughters. Eucharistic Ministers will be Donna Ankenbauer and Gene Derner. Casket Bearers will be Clarence’s grandsons: Jeremy Fath, Phillip Tranel, Christopher Tranel, Chad Odland, and Craig Fischer; and Clarence’s great grandson, Ryan Wilson. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham. Military honors will be conducted by the Dedham American Legion and the Audubon V.F.W.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Friday, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by St. Joseph’s Parish at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Joseph’s Church at 9 a.m. Saturday morning where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral mass.

Clarence Joseph Fischer was born on June 30, 1919 at Templeton, Iowa, the son of Frank and Katie (Bierl) Fischer. He spent his early years in the Templeton area, attending school at Holy Angels in Roselle, then Sacred Heart School in Templeton. Clarence served in the United States Army during World War II until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. While in the military on April 18, 1944 he married Agatha Dentlinger at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The couple lived in Louisiana for a brief time and then returned to the Templeton and Willey area. Since 1950 the couple had lived on their farm south of Dedham with the exception of three years in which they owned and operated a supper club in Oskaloosa. Clarence was a grain and livestock farmer his entire life and also enjoyed woodworking. In 2008 following the sudden passing of his wife Agatha, Clarence became a resident of St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Dedham American Legion, Audubon V.F.W. and was also active with the REC Board for many years.
Survivors include his children: Dennis (Elaine) Fischer of Boise, ID, Daryl “Dual” (Mary Ellen) Fischer of Audubon, Denise Odland of Johnston, Diane Fath of Des Moines, and Debra (Gene) Tranel of Washington, IL; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his sisters: Catherine Pelfresne of Michigan, Mary Dentlinger of Audubon, and Dorothy (Frank) Youngblood of Washington State; his brothers: Otmar (Colette) Fischer of Algona and Leonard Fischer of Carroll; his in-laws: Gladys Halbur of Halbur, Jeanette Venner of Carroll, Jim (Rita) Dentlinger of Glidden and Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll; as well as other extended relatives.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Agatha in 2008; his son-in-law, Ronald Odland; his sisters: Hilda Steffes and Rita Ferden; and his brother John Fischer.
