Chuck had a generous nature and loved to help anyone who needed it, offering whatever he had to give or share. He was fiercely patriotic and was a born-again Christian who loved witnessing for the Lord. Chuck deeply loved God, America, and his family.
Born on January 5th, 1946 at Pocahontas, Iowa, Chuck was the son of Harry and Rose (Jonas) Malm. He graduated from Pocahontas high school in 1964. Chuck was a high school and college athlete and loyal friend to many.
Chuck and Bonnie Seifried were married on June 24th, 1967 in Pocahontas. Chuck went on to attend Loras College in Dubuque and graduated from both Commercial Extension College in Omaha and Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.
Drafted into the United States Army in 1967, he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a grunt with the Fourth Infantry (IVY) Division until his Honorable Discharge in May of 1969. Chuck held a deep love and respect for his fellow grunts and current United States soldiers.
Bonnie and Chuck moved to Breda in 1973 where he taught middle school, high school, and coached and umpired many athletes. Chuck was known for his “behind the plate talk” and deep third strike call on the baseball field. He held sincere memories of his students and athletes in the Breda area. He worked at the Breda Savings Bank for over thirty years, retiring in 2009.
More than anything in this world, it was Chuck’s desire that each and every person accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. His daily Bible reading and prayer time included many people from Breda and surrounding communities. He cherished sitting on his front porch and sharing the Gospel. Chuck was a member of the Breda American Legion, Fred F. and Norman J. Bruning Post # 607.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie; son, Matt Malm of Wichita, KS; and daughters: Dr. Jennifer Diers and husband Doug of Pella, Anne Collison and husband Pete of Carroll, and Kate Ford and husband Sergeant Brian of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren: Kobe, Luke and Faith Diers; foster grandchild, Sam Sarfo, Ella, Gus and Mac Collison, and Sib, Charlie and Ezla Ford; his mother, Rose Malm of Pocahontas; two sisters, Mary Jo Malm of Omaha, NE, and Joyce (Erv) Aden (Lidderdale, IA) and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Harry J. Malm and father-in-law, Sib Seifried.
