Carol Leiting, 63, of Glidden, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at her home north of Glidden surrounded by her family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden. The Celebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch, assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Music will be by Mary Ross and the parish choir with Mike Bolton as soloist. Lector’s for the funeral mass will be Linda Downing and Mary Everding. Gift Bearers will be Carol’s grandchildren: Everett, Ethan, and Joseph Hawkins, and Piper and Payson Downing. Eucharistic Ministers will be Louis Tigges and Mike Downing. Casket Bearers will be: Michael Armstrong, Scott Armstrong, Steven Armstrong, James Armstrong, Marty Crabbs, Merle Crabbs, Zachary Crabbs, Mark Crabbs, and Neil Myers. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at West Cemetery in Panora.
Friends may call at St. Elizabeth Seton Church on Friday after 5 p.m. where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday until time of the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the church for the family of Carol Leiting and will be used for cancer research.

Carol Ilene (Crabbs) Leiting was born on May 26, 1951 in Manning, Iowa. She was the daughter of Bruce and Ilene (Lemke) Crabbs. She grew up in the Guthrie County area near Guthrie Center, Iowa, attending the country schools of Guthrie County and the Guthrie Center Grade and High School in Guthrie Center. She graduated in 1970. After graduation she married in 1972 and had six children. She was divorced in 1998. Carol worked at Rose Acres Farms and Sparky’s in Guthrie Center and moved to the Glidden area in 1999. She worked as a caretaker at New Hope Village, and in the floral department at Hy-Vee in Carroll. She married Martyn Allen Leiting on June 2, 2001 at their home north of Glidden, Iowa and had 13 wonderful years together.
Carol loved to work in her flower gardens. She loved to restore old trunks and old furniture and creating new furniture from anything she could find. Carol liked scrapbooking, traveling, and watching the sunrise. She loved spending time with her children, and grandchildren.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and her greatest joy was her entire family.
Carol is survived by her loving husband Marty Leiting of rural Glidden; six children: Chris (Johnnie) Downing of Guthrie Center, Jerri (Matt) Hawkins of Lonsdale, MN., Valerie Downing of Phoenix, AZ, Anne Downing of Des Moines, Beatrice Downing (fiancé Nick Radel) of Phoenix, AZ, Victoria Downing of Glidden; two step-children Cory Leiting of Sherburn, MN, and Lisa Leiting (finance Josh Tigges) of Carroll; five grandchildren, Everett, Ethan, and Joey Hawkins, Piper and Payson Downing; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Everding of Omaha, NE and June Armstrong of Omaha, NE; three brothers, Michael (Marge) Crabbs of Guthrie Center, Alan (Elaine) Crabbs of Maxwell, and Peter (Michele) Crabbs of Redfield; her brother-in-law, Arnie Myers of Guthrie Center; her step-mother, Zella Crabbs of Des Moines; her step-sister, Toni Snider of St. Louis, MO; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and many friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cheryl Myers; two brothers: David and Danny Crabbs; her brother-in-law, Harold Armstrong; and her grandparents: Herman and Edna Lemke and Robert and Edna Crabbs.
