Bernice Pomeroy, age 92, of Dedham, Iowa, died early Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, August 28, 2009, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Officiating will be the Reverend Lynn Gunderson, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Soloists will be a nephew, Jim Von Bon, and nieces, Joyce George and Diane Joneson. Casket Bearers will be family friends, Gene Derner, Bob Sporrer, and Mark Schultes, and grandsons, Bryan Kitt, Brad Kitt, and Patrick Johnson. Burial will be at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden. The family will meet with friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Memorials may be left for the Dedham Booster Club Scholarship Fund. Mrs. Pomeroy was born on April 2, 1917, at Coon Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Elsie (Wallis) Patrick. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1935. Prior to her marriage she worked for the Garst and Thomas Seed Company and Armours Creamery. On December 16, 1941, she was married to James Merle Pomeroy in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Dedham. Besides being a homemaker and raising four children she worked for the Garst Seed Company during detasseling season, the Glidden Egg Plant, and later cooked in the lunch room for Carroll High School. In 1979 she started a day care in her home where she looked after many Dedham area children. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Dedham Booster Club. Bernice enjoyed her family, dancing, sewing, reading, and taking care of children. Survivors include her children, Ron Pomeroy and his wife Vicki of Ft. Laramie, Wyoming, Judy Kitt and her husband Rollie of Port Washington, Wisc., Sherry Hilley and her husband Rob of Huntsville, Alabama, and Dan Pomeroy of Coon Rapids; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Annabelle Von Bon of Dedham, and Joan Campbell and her husband Jim of Council Bluffs; She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Pomeroy, in October 1985; her parents; and six brothers, Howard, Ralph, Roy, Paul, Jon, and Delbert Patrick.
