Arlene Kasperbauer, 87 of Dedham, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Donna Grossman and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Sharon Kasperbauer. Gift Bearers will be Arlene’s granddaughters: Kari Carroll, Gina Hermsen, Jennifer Bellinghausen and Rebecca Demas. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Wayne Sporrer, Mark Trecker, Tom Sporrer, Marvin Sporrer, Daryl Hacker, and Pat Sporrer. Casket Bearers will be Arlene’s grandsons: John Haberl, Dan Schreck, Mark Bauer, Heath Kasperbauer, Tyler Kasperbauer, and Brett Kasperbauer. The Dedham American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by St. Joseph’s Parish.

Born on January 23, 1926 at Dedham, Iowa, Arlene was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Sextro) Sporrer. She spent her entire lifetime in the Dedham area and attended St. Joseph’s School. On February 22, 1944 she married Herman Kasperbauer Jr. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The couple farmed northeast of Dedham until 1970 when they moved into Dedham. Arlene was a talented quilter and made quilts for each of her grandchildren. She enjoyed various types of music, playing cards, watching John Wayne movies and socializing with her many friends. She had a deep devotion to her family, her faith, being a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Dedham and the ladies guild. Arlene was also a member of the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her ten children: Marlene (Lenus) Haberl of Roselle, Ione Behn of Carroll, Jeanette (Dennis) Cowels of Omaha, NE, Mary (Larry) Railsback of Guthrie Center, Eugene (Sharon) Kasperbauer of Roselle, Linda (Steve) Bauer of Coon Rapids, Roger (Cindy) Kasperbauer of Dedham, Gerard Kasperbauer of Weippe, ID, Anita (Tom) Baumeister of Carroll, and Scott (Maribeth) Kasperbauer of Glidden; 32 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her sister, Mary Trecker of Carroll; her brothers: Joseph (Mary Kay) Sporrer of Dedham, and Harold (Rita) Sporrer of Manning; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Kasperbauer of Longmont, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herman in March of 1984; her parents-in-law, Herman and Barbara Kasperbauer; her grandson, Doug Haberl; her daughter-in-law, Jan Kasperbauer; her son-in-law, Jerome Schreck; her sisters: Sally Heithoff, Alma Forke, and Rose Hacker; and her brothers: John, Leonard, and Clarence Sporrer.
