Annette Oswald, age 91 of Carroll, and formerly of Harlan, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll.
The family kindly requests that those in attendance wear a face covering.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Jane Heithoff. Lectors will be Jenny Sloan, Jolene Vos, Heather Adler, Andrea Rau. Gift Bearers will be Lindsay Williams and Paige Williams. Eucharistic Minister will be Kim Vandendiessie. Casket Bearers will be Nic McCauley, Trevor McCauley, Mat McCauley, Ryan Oswald, Jared Aalbers, Eric Gross, Garrett Shirbroun. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Church.

Annette, the oldest of 6 children of Ed and Annie (Kanne) Fleskes was born on April 3, 1930 at Carroll, Iowa. She married Robert Oswald on June 25, 1952. They were the first couple married in the current St. Lawrence Church Building.
Annette enjoyed traveling, gardening, baking and sewing. Faith and Family were very important to her. Annette served on the St. Michaels Parish Ladies Guild in Harlan, and St. John Paul – St. Lawrence Ladies Guild in Carroll.
Left to celebrate Annette’s life is her husband Bob of Carroll; children: Barb Aalbers (Dick) of Monroe, Steve Oswald of Omaha, NE, Craig (Lori) Oswald of Denver, CO, Lori MCCauley (Mike) of Adrian, MI, and Julie Shirbroun of Lidderdale; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Her sisters: Vera (Duane) Sporrer of Carroll, Kay Heisterkamp of Ankeny, and Judy Adams (Tex) of Estherville; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Mellhollin (Steve) of Franklin, TN, Shirley Fleskes of Highlands Ranch, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Annette was preceded in death by 2 children at birth: Scott and Joni; her parents, Ed and Annie Fleskes; her brother Jack Fleskes, and a sister Pat Sturm.
