Wilma Bruning, 74 of Carroll, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 at her residence in Carroll surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Shelly Loew. Gift Bearers will be Marie Loew and Cleone Hermsen. Casket Bearers will be: Darrick Bruning, Ricky Bruning Jr., Bo Bruning, Heather Green, Joseph Green, Lacey Lapel, and Larry Bruning. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Thursday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by the Holy Spirit Parish at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. on Friday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on December 31, 1937 at Templeton, Iowa, Wilma Ann was the daughter of Norbert and Viola (Krantz) Truhe. She spent her lifetime in the Carroll Community and attended St. Lawrence Grade School and St. Angela’s Academy. On October 25, 1956 she married Raymond Bruning at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Following Ray’s military service they made their home in Carroll. Wilma started worked with the Crouse Cartage Company along with her husband in the Allied Division and continued working with the Crouse Trucking Family up until the time of her illness. She also worked for Lou Walsh Motors, and assisted with auctions for Gary Rupiper and Don Gerken. From 2004 until 2007 she was a partner in Memory Lane Antiques with Cleone Hermsen. Wilma enjoyed keeping busy with her various jobs, cookouts, her cat, OJ, spending time with her family and playing dolls with her great-granddaughter. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
Survivors include two sons: Rick Bruning and his wife Deb of Breda, Denny Bruning and his wife Robin of Carroll; four grandchildren: Ricky Bruning and his fiancé, Lacey Lapel of Breda, Bo Bruning of Breda, Darrick Bruning of Omaha, and Heather Green and her husband Joseph of Auburn; one great-granddaughter, Marcie Hull; three sisters: Betty Willey of Glidden; Norma (Dick) Enos of Carroll, and Rose Platz of Carroll; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Larry (Joan) Bruning of Carroll and Ione Beyer of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in June, 1998; daughter Deb Bruning in April 2008; and her grandson, Jason Bruning.
