Born on November 27, 1935 at Carroll, Iowa, Wilbur “Willie” Hinners was the son of Alfred and Hildegard (Grote) Hinners. He grew up on his family’s farm near Arcadia and attended St. John School, later graduating from Arcadia High School.
On February 15, 1958, Willie was united in marriage to Patricia Riesberg at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Carroll. Shortly after their marriage, Willie served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1960.
Willie and Pat made their home in Arcadia where he was employed with Arcadia Oil Company for 30 years. The couple also managed the Arcadia Legion Hall for over 20 years. His passion was “working in the public” and visiting with people kept a skip in his step over the years.
Willie enjoyed helping on the farm, was active with the Arcadia American Legion, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. His greatest love was his family; traveling to visit all of his children and enjoying the time spent with his grandchildren. Willie also especially loved polka and “old time” music, and dancing was one of his favorite pastimes throughout his life.
Willie was a member of St. John Parish in Arcadia, and a member of the Arcadia American Legion.
