Virginia Steffes, age 91, of Carroll, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father John Gerald. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Saturday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be Bobbi Jo Warnke. Gift Bearers will be Jeff and Maxine Warnke and Brad and Holly Warnke. Soloist will be James Brinker. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of America will form an honor guard at the church for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be Dennis Warnke, Darrell Brinker, Bob Warnke, Jeff Warnke, Joe Loneman, and Jerry Kelley. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Friday by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by Holy Spirit Parish. Virginia was born on July 27, 1919, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Ole and Eva (Nelson) Olesen. She spent her lifetime in the Carroll community and attended the Carroll Community School. On May 3, 1938, she was married to Hilbert G. Steffes at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Virginia was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. Virginia enjoyed her family, bingo, and putting puzzles together with Kelly. Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Brinker and husband Darrell of Lake View, and Donna Warnke and husband Dennis of Carroll; her son, Mark Steffes of Carroll; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Rita Halbur of Carroll and Irene Steffes of Lake View; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Steffes of Arlington, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilbert Steffes, in April 1996; her parents; a daughter, Betty Lou Steffes, in infancy; a grandson, David Brinker; sisters, Gladys Moore and her husband Roland, and Josephine Olesen, in infancy; and a brother, Virgil Olesen and his wife Doris.
