Virgil “Bud” Dalhoff was born April 11, 1923 to Fred and Mary Eischeid Dalhoff. He attended grade school at St. Augustine’s in Halbur, and graduated in 1941 from Carroll High School. While in high school he played guard on the football team. During and after high school he helped his dad paint houses. Then he took a job delivering Pepsi, and stayed at that job for seven years. Then his brother, Fred Jr., who was employed at the Old Grandad Distillery near Louisville, Kentucky, told Bud that there was jobs there, so Bud moved there to live and work in the distillery for 17 years.
When Bud was around 60, he moved back to Carroll, and worked for Huelshorst painting until he retired. Bud was an avid investor, and would go to the library daily to read financial literature and would pick the stocks that he bought and sold. He also loved attending baseball games in Omaha with his brother Frank, and listening to radio broadcasts. In his later years, his nephew, Alan Heiman, oversaw his care. Bud enjoyed attending family reunions and keeping up with his many nieces and nephews.
Virgil is survived by his brothers: Francis Dalhoff of Omaha, NE, David (Darlene) Dalhoff of Painesville, OH; sisters: Marjorie (John) Gehling of Atlantic, Mary Lou “Mitzi” (Dick) Maranell of Milford, and JoAnn (John) Stransky of Henderson, NV; sisters-in-law: Edna Dalhoff of Halbur, Arlene Dalhoff of Carroll, and Patricia Hesch of Austin, MN; 34 nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ann; his sister Arlene (Elmer) Heiman; his brothers: Fred Jr., Elmer, Joe, and Jerry Dalhoff.
