Vincent Langel, age 91, of Templeton, Iowa, died Saturday, November 6, 2010, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. The Celebrant will be Father Dale Reiff. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be Gene Langel. Gift Bearers will be Patricia Langel, Mary Kay Wernimont, and Joyce Langel. Mass Servers will be Sara Langel, and Alex and Andrew Irlbeck. Ron Langel will deliver the eulogy. Eucharistic Ministers will be Joea and Donna Kemper. Casket Bearers will be Ron Langel, Bill Rupiper, Ervin Bauer, Ken Murray, Dale Schlichte, Leon Bauer, Jim Bruggeman, and Larry Heithoff. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton with military honors conducted by the Manning V.F.W. and Dedham American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 P.M. Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 4:30 P.M. Monday by the Templeton Knights of Columbus. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Monday by Sacred Heart Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church in Vince’s name. Vince was born on April 11, 1919, at Templeton, Iowa, the son of Clem and Anna (Fangman) Langel. He spent his lifetime in the Templeton community and attended Sacred Heart School. Following his formal education he farmed with his Dad. Vince entered the U.S. Army in March 1941 and served during World War II with the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion at the Battle of the Bulge. In April 1945 he was wounded in action and received the Bronze Battle Star and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. Following military service Vince farmed and raised cattle for 21 years and then was a hog buyer for Hygrade Food Products Company retiring in 1982 at the age of 63. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Templeton Knights of Columbus, Manning V.F.W., and the Dedham American Legion. Vince was a Charter Member Donor to the National World War II Memorial Trust Fund in Washington, D.C., and attended numerous reunions of the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion around the United States. Vince enjoyed his family, Chicago Cubs baseball, fishing, playing golf, playing cards, meeting his friends for coffee, and was a 42 year season ticket holder to Iowa State University football games. Vince is survived by his sisters, Justina Langel of Carroll and Margaret Murray of Templeton; sisters-in-law, Viola Langel of Carroll and Bonnie Langel of Carroll; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Henry, Adolph, Joseph, Edward, Simon, and Ted Langel; and sisters, Clara Bauer, Mayme Bauer, Regina Schlichte, Anna Dopheide, Hildegard Rupiper, Beatrice Langel, and Kathryn Dopheide.
