Vern Neppl, age 78 of rural Breda, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Joe Dillinger, assisted by Deacon Butch Stone. Eucharistic Minister will be Vern’s sister, Bonnie Govern. Gift Bearers for the funeral mass will be Vern’s sisters, Bonnie Govern and Mary Bruening. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Doug Moore, Jerry Ostbloom and Leon Boes. Casket Bearers will be: Rick Govern, Dave Govern, Randy Bruening, Tom Bruening, Steve Bruening, Rick Halbur, and Don Halbur. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 5 p.m., Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for Loring Hospital Hospice in Sac City.
Born on May 22, 1932 at Carroll, Iowa, Vern was the son of William and Mary (Wolterman) Neppl. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Breda and attended St. Bernard School, graduating with the Class of 1950. Following his formal education Vern served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 during the Korean War before his honorable discharge. For his entire lifetime Vern farmed and farming was his true passion. He was both a livestock and grain farmer until his retirement. In retirement he enjoyed bowling, hunting and spending time with his family. Vern was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Breda American Legion, Fred F. and Norman J. Bruning Post # 607.
Survivors include two sisters: Bonnie Govern of Eagle Grove, and Mary (Luverne) Bruening of Wall Lake; nieces and nephews: Kathy (Doug) Moore of Yukon, OK, Rick (Linda) Govern of Burlington, Dave (Judy) Govern of Eagle Grove, Randy (Julie) Bruening of Carroll, Lori (Jerry) Ostbloom of Iowa Falls, Tom (Lori) Bruening of Des Moines, and Steve (Chrissy) Bruening of Chariton, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister in infancy, Nona Mae, and a brother in-law, John Govern.
