Shirley Willenborg, age 78, of Dedham, Iowa, died early Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 17, 2010, at St. Joseph Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Father Anthony Pick, assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Saturday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be a granddaughter, Sarah Dentlinger. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Kristina Riesselman, Jackie Willenborg, Jamie Willenborg, and Amber Willenborg. Mass Servers will be Brittney Mikkelsen and Rachel Grossman. Eucharistic Minister will be Joe Ankenbauer. Honorary Pallbearers will be granddaughters and granddaughters-in-law, Sarah Dentlinger, Kristina Riesselman, Jackie Willenborg, Jamie Willenborg, Amber Willenborg, Alyssa Willenborg, Laura Luetje, and Stacie Riesselman. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Chad Riesselman, Matt Willenborg, Tom Willenborg, Kurt Riesselman, Nick Willenborg, and Adam Luetje. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Dedham.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by St. Joseph Parish.
Shirley was born on July 22, 1931, at Lidderdale, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Dewey) Armstrong. She spent her younger years in the Lidderdale community and attended country school and Carroll High School. On May 25, 1955, she was married to Art Willenborg at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The couple lived west of Dedham until 1962 when they moved to their home in Dedham where Shirley was a homemaker and raised their family. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and the Midwest Old Iron Club. Shirley dearly loved her family and enjoyed gambling, cooking for her family, and the Old Iron Club activities.
Survivors include her husband, Art Willenborg of Dedham; her children, Cindy Riesselman and husband Allan of Dedham, Dale Willenborg and wife Lori of Dedham, Peggy Dentlinger and husband Kevin of Guthrie Center, Allen Willenborg and special friend Linda Jenkins of Dedham, and Ron Willenborg and special friend Diane Rickers of Dedham; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Darwin Lee Armstrong and wife Kathy of Pewaukee, Wisc.; sisters, Joyce Tapps and husband Norman of Carroll, and Mavis Junkman and husband Eddie of Rockwell City; and sisters-in-law, Jean Knobbe of Guthrie Center, and Lois Adolf of Burlington, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Larry Armstrong.
