Shirley Kerber, age 48, of rural Breda, Iowa, died early Friday, February 19, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Monday, February 22, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lector will be Judy Huegerich. Gift Bearers will be Shirley’s children, Jeremy, Amanda, and Melissa Kerber. Mass Servers will be Katelyn Hoffman and Madison Rolfes. Eucharistic Minister will be Kenneth Nees. Casket Bearers will be siblings: Marie Eischeid, Marguerite Nielsen, Mary Smith, and Paul “Butch” Kasparbauer; brothers-in-law: Tom Smith and Rich Firkus, and a nephew, Craig Nielsen. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M., Sunday, where there will be a rosary prayed at 4 P.M. by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Altar Society. There will be a Christian Wake Service at 6 P.M. by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
Ms. Kerber was born on September 27, 1961 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Teresa (Vonnahme) Kasparbauer. She grew up in Templeton and attended Sacred Heart Schools, and then attended Kuemper Catholic High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. Following high school Shirley attended Iowa State University and then returned to the Carroll area. Shirley was married to Kent Kerber on August 28, 1987 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Jeremy, Amanda and Melissa. The couple later separated. Most recently Shirley was living on a farm outside of Breda, where she raised a variety of animals and livestock. She thoroughly enjoyed all that country living had to offer. Shirley also enjoyed decorating cakes, making dresses, listening to country music, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, and Parish Altar Society.
Survivors include her children: Jeremy Kerber of Carroll, Amanda Kerber of Ames, and Melissa Kerber of Carroll; her mother, Teresa Kasparbauer of Templeton; her sisters: Teresa Smith and her husband Tom of Milwaukee, Wisc, Marie Eischeid of Manning, Marguerite Nielsen of Carroll, Annette Firkus and her husband Rich of Stevens Point, Wisc, Kathy Kasparbauer of Pueblo, Colo, and Mary Smith of Emmetsburg; her brother, Paul “Butch” Kasparbauer of Templeton, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Kasparbauer, two sisters, Lucy and Louise in infancy, brother-in-laws, Roger Smith and Gary Eischeid, and a niece Kristy Nielsen.
