A celebration of Scott’s life will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 1pm at the Swan Lake East Shelter in Carroll Iowa.
Scott Robert Smith was born March 3,1954 in Burlington, Iowa to Kenneth Smith and Patricia Buntz. During Scott’s childhood he attended school in Ames, and he graduated in 1972 from Ames High School. A story he would tell from his childhood, was about how he brought home baby skunks one day in his bicycle basket. His mother had contacted the neighbor who was a veterinarian, and she was told to burn his clothes and have him take a tomato juice bath as he was sprayed while bringing the skunks home.
After graduation Scott enlisted into the military where he drove large equipment vehicles. Following his military service, he met Rhonda Miller and the couple married in 1976. The following year his daughter Faye Smith was born. She went on to bless Scott with 10 grandchildren. During this time Scott worked many different jobs throughout his life, from a shoe salesman to a jeweler.
Scott met Diane while working at Zales. They moved to Texas so Scott could continue working for Zales. While in Texas, Scott met Cathy Johnston and in the early 1980s, they got married and moved to Lantant, Florida.
Scott and Cathy lived in Florida for 28 years. In those years Scott had his own lawn care business. Scott enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, traveling, and he also played a lot of pool tournaments. He had a dog named Fras that he loved very much. Scott spent time riding his motorcycle and participating in Iowa’s Ragbrai.
In 2011 Scott moved back to Iowa so he could spend time with his grandchildren who were now having kids of their own. He has six great grandchildren with two more on the way. They are all a blessing to Scott’s life. Scott moved to California in 2014 to be with his brother Mark. He loved California but wanted to go traveling before making it back to his family in Iowa in 2020. At that time his health started to decline, Scott then decided to move in with his daughter; making his great grandkids laugh was a pleasure of his. He also had adopted a cat named Arrow who he loved very much.
He is survived by his brother Mark Smith and his sister Susan Ford. Also by his daughter Faye Mason, 9 grandchildren: Charlie(Shawn), Dariel(Josh), Lex, Jammie(Cory), Mae, William, Micheal, Jordan, and Randie; great-grandchildren: Rayden, Kaylahni, Eevee, River, Memphis, Avianna, and 2 more on the way. Plus lots of step great grandchildren close loved ones Mark, Ian, Shawn, and many other loved ones.
