Rosemary Schon, age 79, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Friday, June 04, 2010, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 7, 2010, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson assisted by Rosie’s son, Deacon Gary Schon. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Monday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be grandchildren, Angela Lensch, Mike Schon, and Jared Schon. Gift Bearers will be Rosie’s grandchildren and daughters-in-law. Mass Servers will be Tanner Ludwig, Leah Klocke, and Josh Sapp. Music will be provided by the Holy Spirit Choir with Barb McDermott as organist and John Wagner as soloist. Casket Bearers will be Rosie’s sons and sons-in-law, Dale Schon, Mark Schon, Jeff Schon, Joey Schon, Pat Schon, Andre Angrick, John Pletchette, and Rex Knudsen. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Sunday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Sunday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Sunday by Holy Spirit Parish. Rosie was born on August 13, 1930, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Catherine (Gehling) Masching. She spent her lifetime in the Carroll community and attended Saint Peter and Paul School and graduated from St. Angela Academy. On November 27, 1950, she was married to Leo Schon at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. The couple farmed southwest of Glidden until 1987 when they moved to their home in Carroll. Rosie was a homemaker and devoted mother. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Rosie dearly loved her family and enjoyed gardening, sewing for her family, quilting, cooking, canning, dancing, 16 inch softball, Chicago Cubs baseball, the Irish singer Danny O’Donnell, and was considered a maverick at playing cards. Survivors include her husband, Leo Schon of Carroll; her children, Gary Schon and wife Sheri of Glidden, Dale Schon and wife Lori of Willey, Mary Schon of Carroll, Shirley Angrick and husband Andre of Glidden, Carol “Jean” Pletchette and husband John of Winterset, Mark Schon and wife Joleen of Cedar Rapids, Jeff Schon and wife Melanie of Glidden, Joey Schon and wife Monica of Coon Rapids, and Pat Schon of Glidden; a son-in-law, Rex Knudsen of Carroll; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; her sisters, Evie Wieland and husband Donald of Carroll, Rainey Wieland and husband Paul of Carroll, Edna Ludwig and husband Orville of Carroll, Mary Pudenz and husband Jim of Carroll, and Lois Neumayer and husband Chuck of Rancho Murieta, Calif.; her brothers, Don Masching and wife Barb of Breda, and Jim Masching and wife Joyce of Carroll; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Masching of Carroll, Bill and Dorothy Schon of Glidden, Louie and Dorothy Schon of Glidden, Harriet Schon of Carroll, and Barb Schon of Pleasant Hill; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Knudsen, in 2005; her parents; a sister, Leona Masching, in infancy; and brothers, Louis Masching and wife Eunice, Edwin Masching and wife Norma, and Robert Masching, in infancy.
